Yeah, the online equivalent of an InShops.

Shame though as there are some cracking sellers on there.

I don't think I ordered from them once after they switched over. Absolute shite, with not a single decent off to be found on the entire site.

I used to use it when it was Play but I have only ever had a couple of items from Rakuten, there were some good sellers on there but they were also on either amazon or ebay or both and they always seemed to be more expensive on Rakuten, I wonder if this was due to the charges on Rakuten?

I cannot say that I am surprised really.

This is a pretty good offer: http://www.rakuten.co.uk/shop/the-en...grid_product_1

My last (and possibly last) order with them.

Play was a great retailer but it was pretty much doomed when Osborne cracked down on VAT free imports from the Channel Islands. However it took real stupidity to waste £25 million as Rakuten did. I never bought a thing after they took over, to say it won't be missed is an understatement, it's absence won't even be noticed.

Shame, this is indeed shite news.

Spent a fair few quid with them over the last couple of years and the points system was quite worthwhile too.

Pity.

I've ordered loads of bargains through them over the last year or two. Never had a problem and saved an absolute packet.

Does this explain why eOneDirect seemed to have suddenly disappeared from Rakuten recently?

The site was a nightmare to navigate, sometimes it would take days for orders to be confirmed, sometimes they'd make multiple orders of the same item, promotional codes often didn't work, customer service was slow to respond... Can't imagine why they weren't able to make a go of it.

good riddance. loyalty system was a trap that kept you loyal rather than rewarding you for your choice. and customer services easily the worst, most toothless ive ever experienced from any retailer.

The writing was on the wall the moment they changed busines model and ditched the 'Play.com' brand. In fact, it's astonishing 'Rakuten' (a name some people still have difficulty pronouncing) lasted this long.

I kept thinking of SF2 when I saw the name...

Ra---Ku---Ten!!!

Placed what will certainly be my last order with them not long ago via the Entertainment Store. That 300 helmet set - great price and really well packaged too. I wont miss Rakuten though - unlike Play.com.

As others have said play.com were superb but their business model was blown with introduction of tax for Jersey and Guernsey

Rakuten who?

just hope the few sellers I liked, such as FoxDirect, Entertainment Store, eOne Direct etc resurface on amazon marketplace or ebay or similar
