Default Interesting thought regarding Transformers

Wouldn't this have been THE big high definition seller in Asia, consdiering the franchise started in Japan, and considering Sony's far superior PS3 sales numbers compared to the 360 in Asia?

I could easily have seen this selling more than 300 - but without the Asian market (and let's face it, Paramount are effectively withdrawing their movie sales from Asia with this move considering how poorly HDDVD and 360 have sold there) I can't see it being a big seller as far as worldwide sales go.

I know the franchise is huge in the states, but I was under the impression BR sales were beating HD over there too? This seems like a really strange move for Paramounts future - if I was a shareholder I'd be pretty pissed off.

Movie Pirates in asia are going to be all over this one. Once a HD version airs on TV it will be doing the rounds on every bit torrent site a few hours later.

I hate Piracy but if Paramount are going to take away my right to buy a legit copy then so be it. Paramount can feel happy with their $150 million while I watch Transformers for free.

Why bother when ripping the wide-open HD DVD is so much easier with better quality, and will be out months earlier?

Now I just need to find a video card with HDMI to hook it up to my plasma so I can watch transformers. Good thing HD-DVD can easily be hacked and made available for download. It is going to be a huge download though (30GB). That is how I will be "supporting" Paramount from now on.

I thought it would be big in Japan too, but the box office figures show that it has made $24 million through 3 weeks there, and is way behind the pace set by the last Harry Potter movie. Doesn't look like this one will make as much as Spiderman 3 and Pirates 3 there, but there might be a core audience that really wants it. This is probably one reason Toshiba wanted worldwide rights. Japan will be interesting though as even with worldwide rights I'm not sure HD DVD can even tie there.
