Default Which US HDTVs support 50hz/PAL?

I was hoping that in this day and age, US made HDTVs would support something other than a 60hz signal. Can someone tell me which good current HDTVs support 50hz/pal signals natively in the US? I'm not interested in 3D but do like the 120/240hz motion flow feature.

I hate being the only American who actually has media from outside this country.

Not sure what media you are using, but I have UK version of The Matrix Trilogy and I don't have any problem. (US BluRay player and US TV) My assumption for that would be that BluRay data is written, or glass-mastered (or however it is done now).. exactly as it was created via the source material... meaning, that a Blu-Ray movie, wether US or UK version, would still have the video data written to the disk at a frame rate of 24Hz... conversion to 50Hz or 60Hz would be upto the device used for playback...

That said... I do not have any experience with a UK sourced program (at 50Hz??) on UK media. I assume that would actually be written to the disk with the intent that it would be read and displayed at 50Hz....

Is that your situation??

I am probably not the one to help with this one, but I imagine more information would be needed for those who can...

What are you trying to watch, and on what media?

I can't speak for any current TV's, but I know my Pioneer Pro-101 and all the other Pioneer monitors will display a "World Wide Signal".
They will display the following signals

HDMI/DVI/Component/VGA
480i/60
480p/60
576i/50
576p/60
720p/50
720p/60
1080i/50
1080i/60
1080p/24
1080p/50
1080p/60

Composite
NTSC, PAL, SECAM, 4.43NTSC, PAL M, and PAL N

A friend has a Sony KDL-40EX500 (40") and I was surprised it synced to 1080p50, 1080i50, 720p50.

I'd be interested in knowing any other manufacturer/models that sync to 50hz.

I don't believe any of the US Panasonic models do.

All Sharp Aquos models currently being sold in the US will correctly display PAL (and 1080/50hz) at their correct refresh rates (without any need for conversion).

On Sharp TVs, this works on all inputs, even the composite ones, which is important to those who have PAL tapes and VCRs, because many of the other HDTVs that can cope with PAL/1080/50 can only do so with HDMI or component (I'm talking to you, Sony).

I've personally tested Sharp, Sony and LG models via HDMI and Component and have had 100% success with the models I tried. Again, Sony is a no-go over composite, though.

I'm pretty sure the cheap Chinese brands (including Vizio) are compatible (think it's even documented in their manual), so there are plenty of models to choose from without having to buy a specialist multi-system set.

AVOID Panasonic and Samsung. Both of those manufacturers are notorious for deliberately locking-out all but 60hz refresh rates on their sets.

If in doubt, though, go with a Sharp. I have two of them (a 60" E88UN and a 51" LE830U). Absolutely loving them!

Not quite. My Pioneer Signature Elite Monitor is 110v and yet it will display all of the signals that I listed above in my previous post.

It supports 50hz signals via HDMI, Composite and Component.

If you're looking to import this to another country, though, you should be aware that it only has a US-standard TV tuner for the F-type/coax connector, so you will not be able to view over-the-air TV channels with a traditional aerial over there.

If you're going to be connecting only by HDMI, component or composite, you should be fine.

There are forums out there for people looking to take US televisions overseas (there's a "Return to India" forum that I looked at when doing my research that mentioned the Sharp models. You might try googling and browsing through the Return to India forum).

Good luck!

Default 50Hz on LG 65EG9600?

I presume the OLED sets, I have the EG9600, will take all input's including 50Hz but I want to be certain. The Philips UHD player does play 50Hz blu rays but at the 50Hz refresh rate while the Samsung UHD player converts the 50Hz rate to 60Hz. I thought it may be better to allow the set to do the conversion rather than the UHD player and then the set again.

I'm almost certain it's not an issue but would prefer the reassurance of someone on the know. Thanks.
