Personally the pioneer would be the one I'd go after since there's preouts for the fr/fl speaker if I ever wanted to add a 2-ch amp down the road.

the pioneer vsx 1124 is on sale for 350

which is better now or am i just being overly picky?

Elite has a 2yr warranty. Pioneer has 1.

I'd choose the one with the features I'd use...that doesn't have stuff I wouldn't use anyway.

Preouts and subwoofer eq that the 44 doesn't have available. And it's slightly more powerful. Otherwise they're about the same.

I just looked up the 44 and 1124 at the Pioneer website.

I don't understand how you can't see any difference between them. Unless, you just havent looked.

On top of those...

MCH SACD, instead of 2 channel. (1124 also supports web/flash drive DSD, which the 44 only offers its 2 channel over HDMI)

Dolby loudness, that also works on TrueHD.

2nd zone hdmi(doesn't say, but probably allows USB/network/coax/optical into 2nd zone as well, instead of just analog like the 44)

6 MCACC presets, instead of 1.

Automatic crossover selection.

HDMI upconversion.

Qdeo scaling.

MCH sound retriever, instead of 2 channel.

800ms of lip sync, vs 500ms of lip sync.

Sabre audio DAC.

Width, in addition to IIz.

But you're right, can't tell any differences...
