United Kingdom There may not be a Sherlock Holmes steelbook...

...but is there going to be some packaging that is exclusive to any store, either online or highstreet?

I've looked through the 3 obvious sites (Amazon, Play and HMV) but they all appear to have the same artwork. Add to that, lack of information.

So, anyone know of anything exclusive? Or would it be better to get an IronPack imported (yuk!)?

I think it's just getting a 3D lenticular sleeve, probably available everywhere.

The German Blu-ray will have a limited edition Steelbook. I expect the disc itself should be identical to the UK release

I thought the lenticular sleeve was exclusive to Play.com? I got it yesterday and it looks absolutely brilliant in terms of it's cover, and I like the fact that the box itself underneath the slipcover has the original artwork as well.

If you're getting it from anywhere, get it from Play.com.

I'm trying to avoid the IronPack if possible. Hate them

Default Sherlock Holmes BD Review

This may be a mostly asthetic review since the movie itself is still my favorite film of 2009.

As for the disc itself, this is going to be a bullet point list.

The bad
  • No animated menus
  • Has the stupid BD quarter blue circle on the back
  • Digital Copy won't work until sometime after release date

The good
Special Features
  • Maximum Movie Mode - An interactive viewer experience in which the entire film is examined. Includes Walk-ons with Director Guy Ritchie, Focus Points, PiP, Storyboard Comparisons, Still Galleries and more.
  • Behind the story
  • Sherlock Holmes: Reinvented
  • BD-Live

Focus Points
  • Drawbridges & Dollies: Designing a late Victorian London
  • Not a Deerstalker cap in sight
  • Ba-ritsu: A tutorial
  • Elementary English: Perfecting Sherlock's accent
  • The one that got away
  • Powers of observation & deduction
  • The Sherlockians

Technical
  • 1080p High Definition 16x9
  • 1.85.1 DTS-HD Master Audio
  • English 5.1
  • Dolby Digital
  • Castilian Spanish 5.1
  • French 5.1
  • German 5.1
  • Italian 5.1
  • English 5.1 listed twice for some reason

Subtitles:
  • English
  • Castilian Spanish
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Norwegian
  • Portuguese
  • Swedish

Subtitles (special features):
  • English
  • Castilian Spanish
  • Dutch
  • French
  • German
  • Italian

The special features are in 1080p but only have a DTS-HD Master Audio English 5.1 track.

The lenticular splicase is NOT limited to Play.com. Got mine from Amazon.co.uk

The BD case itself is a BD amaray case with a fliptray to accomodate the BD disc, although the clips holding it in are awful so they don't actually hold the fliptray in very well. I may get a replacement amaray case with overlapping clips if I can find one anywhere.

In summary, this BD is good, but it could have been a hell of a lot better. Warner Bros seems to be getting really cheap these days.

BD cover artwork that I scanned (56ker's beware!)

The fight scene that Holmes has at the bar is one of my favourites to show people

This is one of my first Blu-Ray discs, but I cannot get it to play audio on my Dolby Digital receiver. The foreign language tracks come through in 5.1 just fine, according to the display. But the english seems to only work as 2-channel audio through the HDMI cable to my TV.

Is this just a case of "I should have a DTS receiver?" I've tried tweaking the audio settings on my DMP-BD85, but I've only managed the 2-channel audio, which is not really what I bought the Blu-Ray player for.

The crazy thing is, I can get even Avatar to work - just switch to the Dolby audio track. And Avatar was the movie that intiated all of those signs reading "don't forget to update your firmware" at the stores.
