Default What will happen to the PS3 if HD media failed?

I'm not saying Blu-Ray or Hd discs will fail, so please don't get angry or defensive with me.

I was just thinking, in light of the whole Paramount move, what if the format war eventually destroyed HD media? What would happen to the PS3? Will it still use Blu-Ray for games? And if so, will it still include a Blu-Ray player for those who have already bought into Blu-Ray even though it didn't exist anymore? OR will they manufacture them without Blu-Ray? What are your thoughts on this? It would be nice if I knew that if my PS3 eventually broke for some reason, I'd be able to buy a new one and still watch the Blu-rays I bought even though you can't buy discs anymore.

The PS3 is one of the major advantages for Blu-ray. The PS3 is in a lot of homes because it's a popular game system and many people have chosen it as their Blu-ray Disc player because of all its functionality and it's a nicely-priced BD player. BD titles sales took off when the PS3 was released.

The other major reason is studio support so hopefully no other studios drop BD support.

It's not even an option. Blu-Ray is not going to fail, so don't worry yourself.

Well in only my opinion should Blu-ray fail with the consumer for HD Movies it'll directly be a big blow to Sony who have banked a hell of a lot on it to push it through as the next generation entertainment format. The ramifications for Sony directly could well be a lot, the amount of money they've invested in this could'nt be justified single handledly by game sales alone. However from the PS 3's point of view itself I don't think that it'd make much of an impact, people will still buy the console for the games coming out for it and it'll be a success I'm sure.

The one thing that it might do could actually be a good thing from my point of view. If they fail to get Blu-ray take up en mass in this cycle I think there's a good chance that whatever happens we'd see it being used in the next playstation. Irony being that they'd still want to be getting back they're money on the format before abandoning it in favour of PS 4's supposed Ken Kutaragi's quoted "Network Only" style console where as if it was entirely a success they'd have no need to push it via a games console anymore.

Either way, enjoy your Blu-rays because they're not going anywhere for a long time.. whether M$ or Pratt-amount want it or not..

take a gander at the PSP for your answer..did UMD take off. does SONY still produce the PSP with a UMD drive...the answer is to both Q: YES .It does not matter in the long run the playstation 3 will still play reg. std. DVD9.....yea DVD9 is still all you will ever need.., that was a shout out to MICROSOFT... , no matter what blu-ray unlike HD DVD is not only used for MOVIES but SOFTWARE also.

THAT IS SOMETHING HD DVD is not being used for. so at the end of the DAY with all the FUD the pro HD DVD anti Blu-Ray statements being thrown around BY THE MEDIA and FORUMS. BLU-RAY is being used for other things aside from movies. yea both can get burners an blank MEDIA but unlike STANDARD DVD, STANDARD CD only ONE HD optical format is called a STANDARD.BY THE DVD forum...HD DVD.....

BUT YET HD DVD DOES NOT DO THE VERY BASIC FUNCTION THAT CD AND DVD have been used for,FOR YEARS.not that HD DVD cannot its just that its not,why is that...because MICROSOFT SAID "ITS NOT NEEDED FOR SOFTWARE" DVD9 is just FINE..is that why WINDOWS VISTA needs 14 GB while WINDOWS XP only requires less than 2 GB..

yea blu-ray will still be used for what its intended for...as a replacement for DVD when the storrage requirements are too great for DVD9 when it would require more than 1 disc.

so there is my answer

Thats right mate, it's the same over here for the most part(uk). The only problem is that despite there only being a few non HD sets available they're sales are still stupidly high compared to the other sets.. but there's no doubting it main stream take up of HD TV's will only gain and not fall.. the electronics giants will make that the only viable option. You can only buy whats out there at the end of the day.. like it or not. Same way as in the long run Blu-ray players will be the only ones available to buy since they'll still play your old DVD's but will be able to play the disks in the shops. In that way it's actually an easier route than was the case from VHS to DVD was..

there is none..because its already been named and already been worked on for years now. MICROSOFTS DISC LESS GOAL will not happen no matter how much they try to spin the FUD. PHYSICAL DISC MEDIA IS NOT GOING AWAY you can take that to the bank: read on

Holographic storage

The next big thing in storage? Three dimensional holographic images enable more information to be stored in a much smaller space, preventing information overflow..

http://colossalstorage.net/home_diskdrive.htm

http://www.colossalstorage.net/

what i like about this is no matter what FUD Toshiba and MICROSOFT try to tout they will still have to play ball.OPTICAL FORMATS ARE HERE TO STAY SONY is just being more upfront about it. while TOSHIBA and MICROSOFT is trying to cover that up. DVD9 is just fine, ONLY HD DVD is backed by the DVD forum. and yet they still followed the same step increase in optics that blu-ray did. priceless

Question

I've got a question; "What happens to PS2 and PS3 games based on Paramount movies? (ie Godfather)?"

Don't worry about those, they're all developed by other companies that have paid they're own money to have the rights to develop and publish those titles. The guys behind the Godfather for example own the intellectual property for it not Paramount.. they just had to buy the licenses to publish them on whatever platform they decide upon.
