So I picked up a Kinergetics Research Chiro C300 from audiogon and got it hooked up last night. I had purchased the amp because the amp in the Sony STR5400ES is very underpowered and every post I had read said that an external amp is amazing. The Chiro is a 140x3 and I used it on the fronts and center - The speakers I have are all rated at 150w RMS so I figured 140 would be a good fit. While I "think" I can tell a general difference in the clarity and I can turn the volume up much louder (to levels way to high) and it stays clean and distortion free. I just don't see the "wow" factor everyone talks about. From the benchmarks I have seen on the Sony it was only able to do at most 50-60w/channel for a typical 5.1 setup. My receiver was already able to push 2 channel very well so the difference would be noticed in the home theater setup. Am I missing something? Is there something special I should be doing when configuring it? It all seems very basic stuff. Maybe the Sony receiver was able to push more power than the benchmarks reported and so the difference is minor? I understand that the load will be less on the Sony and that the overall power will stay more consistent but I honestly expected more of a difference. It sounded great before, and sounds great now. Thoughts?
