Default Center speaker placement????

Hi, i have been a lurking user of these forums for a while, and have found a lot of the discussions on here very helpful in the past.

Well, the time has come, that i need some advice. My wife and I have finally purchased our first home, and I get control of the downstairs/ rec room. Or as i like to call it, my man cave.

I have a chance to set up my home theater, in a nice way, but have run into a speaker placement problem. I thought i read on this site, or somewhere else, that the center channel should be as close to the tv/ screen as possible. because of a window behind my screen, i only have two options really (in my opinion). 1: move the receiver from the shelf in the tv stand to another location, and put the center speaker in it's place, or 2: mount the speaker above the window.

any opinions/ help, and advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think option 1 would be your best bet. You could also have a stand for the front speaker position in front of your tv stand.

Option 2 could also work but it's a bit high (you would need to tilt the speaker so that the tweeter is aimed at the listener). Also it's gonna be harder to pass the speaker wire above the window.

Have you considered putting the TV in the wall opposite to the fireplace?

what about something like this... then you can put the tv up on and the Center channel under the TV, then all the other components on the shelves below

you can also build a tv riser to elevate the telly, to accomodate the height of the center speaker (plus mopads )

how big is the center channel?

oh, dont hide, we can clearly see you in the picture.

Your better off putting the center directly below the TV. Placing it above the window will blow the illusion that the sound is coming from the screen. To maintain that illusion choose whichever option keeps the center closest and most centered to your screen.
Good luck

I am another who thinks if you could build or buy a "TV Riser" it would greatly help with placement and would keep everything where it currently is already. I don't like the center that high above your head at all.

Hey fos.

The nice thing about a riser is that, depending on how high the center channel is, you only have to build something close enough to the stand, that would accomodate its height. Nothing fancy, heck in your case a can of black paint can cover it up real good.

others have used wood, others heck as fancy as using marble. *ahem*

thanks for the advice, and recommendations. after some looking around, and hearing ideas, i think i'm going to go buy some speaker stands and mount the center speaker to one, or both, and adjust the hight until the speaker is flush with the top of the tv.

thanks again for the help.
