This movie was a collection of underpriviledged black person cliches rolled into one without a payoff. Not even worth renting, IMO. Of course people flocked to it, because it was "endorsed" by capitalists like Tyler Perry & Oprah Winfrey.

I think it's probably one of the most overrated of the year. Mo'Nique and Gabourney Sidibe give excellent performances, but I couldn't find myself enjoying the film.

They endorsed it after the previews had been out for a while. There was nothing mentioned about them endorsing it when I first saw the preview, before it was shown on TV. I never saw it, but if Tyler Perry endorses anything, I won't go near it.

I'll rent it but I probably won't buy it.

The main reasons to see this movie: 1. It is a shocking true story. 2. It has very powerful performances.

If these two reasons don't interest you, I say steer clear.

Kind of off subject but is everyone required by a contract or something to say/write "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"? Not commenting on the OP but EVERY TIME this movie is mentioned they say the whole thing. There have been plenty of movies based on books where they didn't do this.

Ya I never understood why they did that either.

+1000. It wasn't my turn to pick which movie to see and I sat through it hoping it would end quick. I'll never watch it again.

Can just imagine if they did that with some others...

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: Based on the Novel 'The Return of the King' by J. R. R. Tolkien

.... the cover of a Blu-Ray in Canada would be nothing but text since they would then have to do it in French too

It isn't a true story.... look at the title. Precious, based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Novels are by definition fiction, and Precious is no exception.

I watched it in the theaters at my wife's request and the movie was ok. However, I would not watch it again. Some good acting performances in it. A timely release too.

This is a must buy for me .. I loved the movie and its just such an emotional digest.
However the price for this is not very competitive this week, best I've seen is $22.77 from FRY's (Hastings for me is a ???, Idk what they are)

It doesn't even include a digital copy (Lionsgate moving backwards here).
So I'll prob wait til it drops below $20.

The original title for the Film was gonna be PUSH but because another sci-fi type film about telekinisis was coming out called PUSH (seems all but forgotten now) So they didn't want any confusion so they changed the title to Precious, but I think they wanted the public to know that it was from the book PUSH. I think when they were about to release the film they may have been afraid people wouldn't know or word of mouth was going to be small.

I guess in the end Saphire got as much presitge on the film, more so than most authors.

Well then, did you see this movie or not? If you did, then that's cool. However, I don't see it at all the way you did. And even if the movie is a collection of cliches, then so what if it is? It is a treasure trove full of the triumph of the human spirit.

If you didn't see it, then your opinion is based on another's, not yours. And being in such a form, it's worthless. And then you say 'endorsed by capitalists like...' Haven't I heard that old cliche countless times before, in so many varied and different ways, from those who oppose capitalism?
