I've just received this Blu-ray. The basic video and audio quality are good, but there is a strange technical problem whereby, at about seven points during the film, a few frames appear to have been dropped, resulting in a slight "jump" in the picture. To a casual glance, these may just look like clumsy edits, but they are not. I've compared it against the UK DVD, and these jumps are not present on the DVD.
I don't think this is due to an incorrect frame rate (e.g. 24fps instead of 23.97fps), because these jumps do not occur at regular equally spaced intervals but at completely random points in the film. In a couple of cases, two jumps occur only about a minute apart. Strangely, none of them occur where there is dialogue, which almost suggests that they have been deliberately selected to have the least detrimental effect. So I don't pretend to know how or why this has happened in the transfer, but it is certainly a flaw in what is otherwise quite a nice presentation. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might have caused this? |
