Australia Lord of the Rings - JB Hi Fi Exclusive

In the latest JB Hi Fi NZ brochure, they have advertised an exclusive for each film. Each of the three films will include a DVD of special features (most likey a direct copy of the existing 2 Disc SE).

21st April release date for New Zealand.

Now im a little more interested in buying the theatrical releases.

One of the staff at my local JB also mentioned something along these lines too. I expect it will be the same DVD also. That seems to be fairly consistent with what was released in the US. I had asked about a price, but they weren't able to mention anything at this point in time. EzyDVD has them for $30 each, so it's possible they'll be in the $25-29 range.

Even with that extra disc in the deal I won't be buying these. The transfers just aren't the knockout they should be. I know that the actual production process resulted in some processed looks and soft images when needed, but from what I've seen of the transfers they are average in a number of spots where they shouldn't be. Combine this with a price point which will not exactly be a bargain and the lack of any new content or extended editions add I won't be buying. If in the future they drop in price I may consider it, but it'd have to be a really good deal.

In the mean time I will patiently wait for either the extended editions or a super-uber box set as once that comes out I simply can't see myself throwing down $ for another edition in the future.

My $32 Extended Edition Trilogy DVD set will just have to do until then.

If I see them in my local JB I will confirm the specs and the price (I imagine they'll be out on shelves Sunday or Monday at my store).

Does anyone here wonder if the Australian release of LOTR will have a different transfer? Its distributed by Roadshow.

EzyDVD have had a 6-disc trilogy box set Bluray up for a while on August 5. http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/813861

Does anybody know if these will include special features? Or are the additional discs only digital copies?
