See, I don't understand this (or the long mooted Hot Wheels movie). I get it's a popular brand (I had loads of Matchbox cars as a kid), but these toys are just cars. They don't have personalities or special abilities. You could literally make any movie with cars in it & call it a Matchbox/Hot Wheels movie.
You could easily just rebrand the Fast & Furious saga or Pixar's Cars movies as Matchbox/Hot Wheels movies. What's the spin? ![]() |

That's the whole point right there: Take the long-running and extremely successful Fast & Furious saga, make a more kid-oriented version of it, and use the branding of an iconic and perpetually popular toy line. If done well, the checks write themselves!

There are much better toys to make animated films based on them.

Interesting IP to draw from, but like many others have said, there's not exactly a shortage of ideas. I can see them trying to tie in real life Matchbox cars somehow; maybe Cena's character collected Matchbox cars with his dad growing up and either enters into a race to honor his father's memory, or if they go the more fantastical route, they come to life or something. Gotta have that heartwarming tie-in somehow.

I think it could be a fun movie if they are able to shrink human stunt drivers down to the size of match box cars and somehow give the cars the power to move. Then go into competition against their nemesis.
Matchbox Racing games on NES were cool as you'd be driving on a kitchen table with the track edges made of Cheerios Cereal. |
