I dropped into a very high end "Home Entertainment" home theater store today to look at Blu-ray players. I was told that I could *NOT* get HD audio from a Blu-ray movie by connecting the analog 5.1 outs of an Oppo BDP-80 into my Denon 2802 analog 5.1 inputs even though the player can decode the HD audio (Dolby TrueHD & Dts-HD Master, etc.). He suggested that I might need to buy a new receiver with HDMI like the Yammi 665, which he sold of course!
I'm confused because I read on these forums that this was the only was to get to hear the HD audio from my Denon (with a player that decodes internally and does d/a conversion to the 5.1 analog outs). What am I missing here? I read the complete thread from crackinhedz -https://forum.blu-ray.com/audio-theory-discussion/40821-how-get-uncompressed-pcm-dolby-truehd-dts-hd-master-audio.html and it seems simple. I ordered the Oppo BDP-80 and I hope not to have to spend $ on a receiver. |
