Default Polk Monitor 70 vs Elemental designs A6 6T6

Pls bare with me, I know that everyones ears are different and everyones listening preference and environment are different as well. Not to mention ones personal choice in ref to movies vs music.

I would like to know what people think is a better speaker, and why....

Which sounds better,
Which looks better,
Better build quality.

I know the polk fans will say polk and vice versa for the elemental designs fans. I'm hoping that someone a few may have had the opportunity to hear both. If anyone has the A6 in the Philly or Coatesville PA area and wouldnt mind demo them for me. I'll bring the beer....

Ultimatley I know that the choice is mine. I have heard the monitor 70's and can only say good things about them. The A6 are on back order and will not be available for a while....The A6 look so damn good lol..................

I don't think that I have seen comparison threads of mid range tower speakers on this site, if there is Id appreciate a link.

TIA.

I cannot weigh in on sound, but since I own an eD A2-300, their build quality is excellent, and you can actually talk to the people that built them. As far as looks, I like the eD also.... the cabinets look nice, less boxy and softer on the eyes.

Thank you Callas01, The ED look so sexy and they match my furniture. I don't think I will be waiting 9 mos or so. The monitor 70 is a great speaker but the cabinent and overall look leaves a lot to be desired but it is a sexy beast with the grills off though lol. Thanks once again.

What are you looking at for a center speaker to match the 70's?

I would be going with the matching CS2. That is one thing that deters me from the ED the $400 price tag for the center speaker.

Build quality and sound definitely go to the eD speakers.

I auditioned the Polks, which are more of a "bright" speaker. They don't sound bad, but "bright" speakers can be a bit harsh to listen to for long periods. The eD speakers are more "warm" sounding and not as fatiguing; they can hit the highs, but their emphasis is more in the mid-range.

From a build perspective, I think something can be said for weight. The eD speaker cabinets are crafted out of solid wood. No press board, no cheap material. They are solid, sturdy, and heavy. I don't think they are as tall as the 70's, but they are wider and deeper.

As for which of the 2 models looks more attractive, that's all a matter of taste. Personally, I wouldn't give my vote to the eD's in this area. I personally liked the look of the Polk TSi series with the piano black gloss top pieces better than the eD speakers satin black with flat black drivers. That part is up to you to decide. However, as a matter of performance, there really isn't a comparison.

If you haven't already, you should contact eD and ask about the status of the A6-6T6 line. They were moving production here to the US, and they were completely out of stock during the move over. I haven't heard if they have resumed production on them, so it could be a long wait if you place on order for them. At one point they were telling people it would be 3 months before they would be shipping the A6-6T6 towers again, but that was a few months ago.

Why not get a 6t6 - MTM as a center channel? That is what I have. It is perfectly matched to the towers. That 6t6 center channel is overkill for almost any setup other than a huge theater room, IMO.

I love my 6t6 towers btw. Laid back and a very warm neutral sound, excellent build quality.

+1. This is what I was going to recommend also. The 6T6-MTM is actually the timber-matched center to pair with the 6T6 towers.

@Progers13, I did contact them and it is about a 9 month period between them completeing their move and manufacturering the A6 again..... I do not know if there will be enhancements or upgrades etc. I do not know if I could wait lol. If speakers are like amps and receivers where the weight is any indicator of build quality and workmanship then the ED has it hands down. The TSI are beautiful speakers, but the model thatis comparable to the monitor 70 is a bit out of my league. I actually like the look of the ED A6. They are only 2" shorter in height if that makes a difference.....

@ART, Elvis, Progers, I was not aware of the 6t6 MTM as a center chanel. I just saw that monster A6 center and somehow wondered if it would fit in front of the Tv or would I need a shelf above the tv...And then the price. LOL It made looking at the Monitors even easier.... Thanks for the heads up on the 6t6 MTM it certainly makes the package more palatable.....

Thanks for the advice guys If I can hold out I will get the A6. I've gone this long w/o surround sound etc.. A few months or rather 3/4 of a yr shouldnt hurt. Perhaps they will be even better by then.

Thanks again.

you could start with 3 these(the pair and the single) and put them up front to get started and then buy a sub, and move the pair to the rear once the towers are ready.. then you will have something to get going on now and then add on the towers later....

If you want sexy and great performing speakers at very reasonable prices, consider Home Theater Direct (HTD). Their speakers come in Black, Maple, and Dark Cherry. You cannot find a sexier center speaker for less than $200 than their level three center speaker. It has Kapton Ribbon Tweeter and its frequency response is 45Hz to 40,000Hz.

That does look pretty good... but does it sound good? Any reviews for these speakers ?

I found some reviews of the HTD stuff and this seems to be a decent product for the price!
Thanks for the new find BigD... ill keep this in my "decently priced speakers" folder.

There are 8 user reviews for the center channel, 11 reviews for the tower speakers, and 7 reviews for the bookshelves. Home Theater Direct (HTD)generally gets very good reviews. Their speakers look good and are very economical.

Those sure do look nice BD......and pretty good reviews too. For that price, these are definitely something to consider.

The Home Theater Direct (HTD) speakers that I showed were their level three speakers. Their level two speakers look nice too and they are a lot cheaper.

Their subwoofers are passive and they have external amplifiers. I definitely prefer external amplifiers to plate amlifiers.

That sub looks pretty good.....down to 22 Hz....not bad at all. Do they offer more than just the one external amp for it?

Sorry about the thread-jack OP....this will be my last off topic post....

@Callas01,

Thanks for the advice but I will aim for tower speakers since this will be a gift from my lady. I don't mind waiting till I find a great speaker that I can afford that has high WAF and is functional as well. I don't think I could convince her that after getting 3 small speakers that I need 2 additional towers....Or I could splurge and do me but I am saving for a ring and or a move if it comes to that. Have to keep priorities in orderLOL and I think everyone here will agreed that means keeping our misses in perspective... Thanks again.

@Big Daddy Those are soem sexy speakers indeed. Grills on and off they are very very nice. I might have to contribute to get the level 3 speakers lol I only think she wanst to spend but so much but she may just want them because they are nice to look at it and according to the reviews they are sound equally as nice.

While we are discussing Internet Direct(ID) speakers what do you or everyone for that matter Think of the EMP speakers? The E5TI are a lil short for my liking but look good acording to diff reveiws and the E55TI look awesome and are at the $799 threshold.
