Default Top Steelbooks to have = holy grail?

This list is ofc never complete but what are would you say are currently the most rarest and expensive Steelbooks in the market? The Holy Grails Steelbooks which everyone wish to have at xmas but Santa never brings them because he can't find them either I'm not talking about subjective ranking like which Steelbook you think looks nicest but the ones which are in generally really high priced, hence, considered to possess great value.

If I've understood correctly John Rambo is having the #1 position quite strongly but which other Steelbooks you would generally pay happily over 100 eur? This list can't be that long really?

I've started to get a quite good picture of Steelbook prices now after few months of hunting them but I'm still in bit of darkness with these highest prices ones = which one are actually very very rare and which ones they actually just try to cheat with at ebay. For example someone is asking now 129£ for GER Death Race but I got no idea if this should be 29£ or is it really one of the rarest ones.

Thanks in advance for comments!

If you're looking to figure out what folks have been paying for certain steelbooks, I'd suggest doing a search on e-bay that includes completed items. It gives you a good idea of what steelbooks close at.

For example, Death Race seems to be going around $60 or so (depending) + postage.

I think 129 euros is quite high.

The best advice I can give you is to set a ceiling for yourself on a certain steelbook and don't pay any more than that.

Otherwise, if you're trying to keep up with the going rate, you are gonna go

I've used ebay and such for some time and know generally how people try to rob there; for example play.com sells Gladiator UK Steelbok now new with 12.99 eur free delivery and it's sold still around 25-30 in ebay and forums like this.

I'm just interested what are these really rare ones which you can actually pay a lot to get and then start to hunt them with a bit different passion hehe. And the most rare ones are so rarely out anywhere it's hard to even see them around, hence asking exact titles.

Thanks for replies!

What I've seen (in US$):

Amazon.de Rambo - about 300-400 new or used
Futureshop I am Legend - 250-350 new, 100-150 used
Futureshop Iron Man - 200-250 new, 150 used
Media Market Wanted - 170-200 new
The Dark Knight (Netherland) - 120 new
Terminator 2 First Press (Japan) - 60-120 new
Terminator 2 2.0 (Japan) - 120-200 new
Star Wars Clone Wars - 80 new, 60 used
Twilight 1 (Spain) - 65-90 new
Twilight 2 (Spain) - 65-90 new

I believe everything else is at most $70, usually $40 or less.

On eBay, the only way people can rip you off is if you purchase from the Buy It Now auctions. But you can check if they're ripping you off by looking at "Completed Listings," which will tell you what people have (and haven't) bought that particular item for.

I would envisage those lists to get longer shortly. Things that I want are hard to find.

I have quite a few of those rare ones, nice to see that I made some good purchases.

Is every one of these 100+ priced Steelbooks expensive simply due to limited production amounts? I assume most must be, but is there any guarantee they won't simply print a new 10000 or 20000 load and then value of these would crash immediately. Or are you (who have bought some of these rare ones with high prices) just trusting this will never happen and the emount of these rare pieces will never grow

It is a mix of limited runs and high demand. I think everyone would love to see second runs, but then that would take away from the whole "must have" attitude that collectors have and I think studios and retailers know this and will stick to it as it'd taint the whole image of "Limited" or "Futureshop exclusive" if you know what I mean.

Unfortunately, as with every area of collector merchandise, you have the people who don't really want the product, buy say 10 copies of it, and then wait until they're OOP and then sell them for a profit. It'd be nice if people weren't solely in things for the money, and bought three copies just to sell on at the same price they paid for it (with a little for P&P) just to help other collectors, but that isnt the world we live in is it lol.

At the moment my holy grail is an FF7 AC steelbook. I'll find one for a decent price soon enough I hope =p

Noone would pay 120 for a Dark Knight from Netherlands unless you're OCD and that's like maybe 5 users on this forum, maybe a few more when you can get the Futureshop one without a printed rating logo for 40-50$

I agree, I also think the FS Dark Knight actually has some awesome backcover art too rather than just disc information. But of course there are people who are OCD and I've seen it go for 120 on this very site.
