Default Why are BRs re-released?

Was just checking out the upcoming releases on Best Buy and they're showing the the Xmen Trilogy is getting released. Each disk is set at $30!!

They also have the "old" ones that are still avail now up to $25. Which I know you can get for about $10 each sometimes. But, I didn't notice anything about quality differences.

I've noticed this a few times before and not sure what the deal is? I assume that most of the time its because they're released in higher quality right. Kinda like how 5th Element and I think Robocop got a newer higher quality release as well right?

They're just being re-released with digital copy and DVD. The BD discs will be the same ones already released. Probably to prepare for the new X-Men movie coming out.

I think the re-releases actually remove the DC originally included with them as it has probably expired and I don't believe there is a DVD included. To answer the OP's question, there are several reasons. Sometimes something is re-released because of an issue with the disc, and this usually starts with a replacement program before the discs are widely available in stores like Gladiator and Pinocchio. Sometimes it's because of a new (not necessarily better) transfer like Predator and T2. And usually it's just to repackage an old disc (sometimes with a copy of the film on an obsolete format) and attempt to push it back to the front of the American consciousness as the blu-ray format grows. Artwork might be new as well to reflect uniformity as the studio packaging template has changed since the title was first released and it may be in a digibook if originally released in a standard case or vice-versa. And yes, all of those reasons stem from --you guessed it-- money.

A lot of times, the re-release will remove any additional discs and/or features from the original disc to make it cheaper. Also, it serves as a re-introduction of the product to help promote another similar product released on the same day.

I've noticed with reading some threads here that some movies are distributed by one studio and later on another studio picks up the distribution rights and they re-release them (with some changes like changing the studio name and logo on the packaging and stuff).

It is insane and confusing to customers. I got confused by these re-releases before I joined these forums.

It's honestly just to make more money. Studios know that people often "forget" of a movie that hasn't recently been advertised or what not. Usually, if they re-release a big movie, there will be new artwork, possibly new special features, and I bet they would hope, a space in the ad that is published by retailers all around. This would re-introduce the movie to the public, creating awareness that it still exists, haha. Therefore, the blu ray buying audience can buy it now since some didn't pick it up earlier.

By the way, V for Vendetta and 300 are being re-released? I may have to look into that, because I MYSELF don't have those! Haha!

(This tactic even works on me, sadly.)

Well I know of 3 for sure and thats just the one I had WAY back when it 1st was released.. and then the same one but had the lenticular cover. And now another is coming in a couple weeks. I know there was others too... special edition w/ the T800 or something like that also.

Same with T2. Seemed to have 4 or 5 different versions out there.
