My Oppo is still fairly new, but I've managed to play several discs on it so far and haven't had any notable issues until tonight. I picked up the Horseman, distributed by Screen Media, and put it in the machine. Some crummy trailers in the beginning played with no issues, but when it got to the menu screen the image was all blown up, like about four times what it should have been. Hit the play button since there was no onscreen option and the movie started playing. The Screen Media logo came up at the normal size, but once the actual film began the image was giant. Like someone had blown the screen up, then quartered it and I was watching the top left section.
Tried the same disc on a PS3 and standalone Samsung 3600 with no issues. The firmware on the Oppo is current, and I went through the various video settings on the machine looking to see if something would repair the problem, but nothing until I took it out and played it in the PS3. Has anyone else run into this issue, or even heard of anyone else having the issue? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated, since I'm more or less at a loss. Thanks! Did scrolling through the zoom function's various modes have any effect? For that matter, was zoom at "x1.0" when it was out of whack? I'm wondering if the disc's BD-J code is triggering some unintended zoom function on the BDP-80.
If you haven't done so already, you might want to fire off an email to OPPO's tech support. If it is a disc compatibility issue, they need to know about it. |

So I watched the whole thing on my PS3, after which I put the disc back in the Oppo and ended up getting the same issue. Huge menu screen with no visible options, nor any options to change the zoom with the remote. Hit play and the movie started up, huge again as well, and again no option to adjust the zoom from the remote when I tried. So I hit the top menu to go back out to the menu, now regular sized (!). Upon seeing that, hit play again and the movie resumed at normal size. Stopped the disc, restarted it, and then back through the samer process. I hate to think it's the player, which has had no issues with any other disc. Primarily because I don't want to dig the mod out and pull the adhesive for it from the chassis and leave any residue as evidence that I've been in there. Ugh.
