Default Looking to buy a 55" LED

What's the best bang for my buck? I'm hoping to spend less than $2,500...but will spend more if the specs justify it.
I'm leaning on a 240Hz TV (will there be a noticable difference from 120Hz?), I want to be 3D ready (despite hating the fad), to try out 3D gaming. I looked on bestbuy.com to get an idea of which Samsung 55" LED to get, but there were several models, and all had very similar specs...it's really hard to tell the difference between them.

Also, I'm kind of lost on the whole "local dimming", and "edge lit" technologies, what are the pros and cons of those? Thanks.

I got the 55in Samsung 3D LED 7000 from Bestbuy and I have no regrets. Watching my blu's now is like watching them for the first time. I use to have a 50in Plasma Vizio (this brand sucks).

I got the Samsung 55 8000 led about 2wks ago. The difference between this and the 7000 is that one is edge lit only and the 8000 has some local dimming tech called pinpoint dimming. While not as good as full local dimming it does provide greater control over the backlights so you get less flashlighting issues and less clouding. The blacks should be a little deeper also. I can say this tech does do a pretty good job as once you do a calibration flashlighting is almost non existent and I have seen no clouding. The blacks are really deep too they are plasma deep not too far off the v25 Panasonic from what I've seen.
I know 2 people that own the 7000 and they really love it. I cant say personally how it compares to the 8000 in these issues as I've only seen the 7000 in showrooms. The price difference was only around $300 when I bought so it wasn't a consideration for me .
Samsung has done a couple firmware updates already one I know is to minimise ghosting in 3D. This works quite well as some scenes had a lot before the update and now look great. Another update I think was the 240hz smoothing effect. With it set to off movies look proper so no soap opera effect.
I really love this tv now that I tweaked it and with the updates. Good luck.

I've been deciding between the two Samsung 3D LEDs, ie the C7000 and the C8000 and finally decided to go for the 7000 because from where I came from, the price difference is a significant 20-25% and I like the black bezel on the 7000. In fact I just got the TV today. I'm very pleased with my new TV so far. The images are vibrant and the colors are spot-on. Blu-Ray of course look dropdead gorgeous but what I'm most surprised is how good regular upscalling DVD movies look like, sharp and with great level detail that I've not noticed in my older 46" Samsung.

My 7000 have no flashlighting issues but does have clouding issues ( patches of brighter grey in a dark background ) but they are only visible when the TV is showing a completely dark image or during very dark scences in a complete dark room and basically I must go "looking for it" to notice them. 99% of the time, this is not a problem at all. From what I read, the C8000 has less of this issue but not completely without it.

The 55" makes a dramatic cinematic improvement over my older 46". I think if you can afford the difference and don't mind the silver bezel, definitely get the C8000 but if not, the C7000 isn't a bad choice. However, you should check out if the C7000 clouding issues bother you before you buy.

Your story sounds like mine, haha. Im upgrading from a 46" as well. I think I'll go with the 8000, if I have enough funds (just bought a house, so have to buy a few other things first).

If looking for an older, cheaper TV, LG 55LH90 will be the best bang for your buck. Last year's Samsung 8500 is flawless, but expensive. The 8000 is nice as well.

This year's Samsungs are probably a safe bet, but cost an arm and a leg. The 7000s have been out a couple of months. The 8000s and 9000s will be trickling in soon. If you have the money, get one. It's the best you can get. I was personally turned off by the silver bezels on Samsungs this year, but they might give you a choice between black or silver. Samsung wins for best picture and thinnest TV by far, but the price is astronomical.

And if you want a friggin huge TV, Vizio (I know, but I am so curious) has a 72" (now rumored to be a 75") coming out later this year, most likely before the holiday shopping season. I haven't seen any official spec sheets on the TV since January, but for it's size, price, and based on the old listing of features, it will be hands down the TV to beat in the best bang for your buck category. No one else comes close. Last product code was Vizio XVTPRO720SV, but might now have a 75 in it instead of the 72.

Either way, best of luck and congrats on the upgrade.

I know that you said led but if you are looking for a 3d tv for gaming I would have to recommend taking a look at the Panasonic 50"VT25 it's in the same price range and got a lot of awards at CES 2010. The 3d and 2d picture quality put the Samsung tv to shame. I just purchased this t.v. the other day and I prefer led or lcd over plasma as well.

I have also heard about the 72" Vizio but IMO I would stay away from the brand all together. I had 2 50" setups and one of them I had to return 3 times and the other twice to get new setups due to constant problems. I personally will never buy a Vizio product.

I own a Vizio 32" TV which is in the bedroom and we have never had an issue with it over three years now. I know several people in the neigborhood and at work with Vizio models and no complaints.

Sorry for your issues, but not everyone has them.

I agree that not everyone will have issues with Vizio but I find it hard to believe that I had 5 brand new setups and all of them had issues within 2 years. Based on my experience I would never buy their products of recommend them. I am glad to hear that you haven't had any issues like mine.

+1 Except liking lcd and led/lcd to plasma. Led looks too cartoonish to me.

This deal caught my eye on the way out of the office today.

Samsung UN55C7000, Bluray Player, 3D Starter Kit $2,600

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...qKSpHtyU20le9A

Use Coupon Code WLC2686

I'd have to do more research, but that is probably a pretty decent deal for a brand new Samsung, even without the player or starter kit. I was going to get this TV when it came out but I was 1) tired of waiting for it to come out and 2) felt like saving some money and going with something cheaper.

Might be worth a look.
