New Regular-Season Schedule Matrix

Western Conference (7-Team Divisions)

Within Conference (Division): 29 games

* 5 games vs. five teams (3 Home/2 Away vs. two teams, 2 Home/3 Away vs. three teams) AND 4 games vs. one team (2 Home/2 Away). Teams rotated on a yearly basis.

* 5 X 5 =25 games

* 1 X 4 = 4 games

Within Conference (Non-Division): 21 games

* 3 games vs. each team (2 Home/1 Away vs. four teams, 1 Home/2 Away vs. three teams). Teams rotated on a yearly basis.

* 3 X 7 = 21 games

Non-Conference: 32 games

* 2 games vs. each team (1 Home/1 Away)

* 2 X 16 = 32 games

(Exception: one team from each division plays one less game inside Division and one more game inside Conference outside Division)

Eastern Conference (8-Team Divisions)

Within Conference (Division): 30 games

* 5 games vs. two teams (3 Home/2 Away vs. one team, 2 Home/3 Away vs. one team) AND 4 games vs. five teams (2 Home/2 Away). Teams rotated on a yearly basis.

* 5 X 2 =10 games

* 4 X 5 = 20 games

Within Conference (Non-Division): 24 games

* 3 games vs. each team (2 Home/1 Away vs. four teams, 1 Home/2 Away vs. four teams). Teams rotated on a yearly basis.

* 3 X 8 = 24 games

Non-Conference: 28 games

* 2 games vs. each team (1 Home/1 Away)

* 2 X 14 = 28 games

The Stanley Cup Playoffs have a new division-based format. Playoff qualification will be primarily Division-based, with the top three finishers in each Division qualifying for the first 12 spots in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (and the first three "seeds" in each Division). The two additional playoff spots in each Conference, designated as "Wild Cards," will be awarded to the next two highest-placed finishers in each Conference, ranked on the basis of regular-season points and regardless of Division. The League will play under this new alignment and playoff system for a minimum of three seasons, through the 2015-16 NHL season.

Do you guys think that Hamrlik will sign with the habs for 1 year with a reduced salary ???? He is 36 and wants to finish is career in MTL .

Hamrlik wants too but I don't think the Habs will. Too much money will be given to Gorges, Markov, Gill, Webber. Spacek makes too much as well unfortunately.

Gil i got 1 year , Markov needs to be seen if he takes 1 year , or 2 with a reduced salary , Gorges will be a easy sign and not that expensive , Webber dosen`t have a huge salary , Spacek its not on the same salary as Hamrlik or Markov . Its up front that will make a big difference , plus i think that they will sign Wisniewski , Sopel , Mara and Picard are on the no list .

On the blue line Halpern , Moen , Pouliot and Pyatt are also healty scratch`s

Also hearing unsuccessful candidates in Dallas have been told. Looks as though Texas (AHL) coach Glen Gulutzan is last man standing.

Muller could still end up with New Jersey though:

Devils have yet to contact Hitchcock about coaching job

That`s what bothers me if Muller is talked to take is own team why the hell they don`t do it in MTL

There's no way we can sign Markov and Wiz... Don't forget Subban and Price are RFA next year and they are the core and will demand a high salary. Gorges will get 3.5 - 4. Spacek gets 3.75 which is way too much but we can't do anything about it now. Markov will not get a reduced salary, he'll get the same amount or a bit less. If the Habs don't want to sign them, plenty of teams will including his good friend Ovy.

Our 6 defenseman will be:

Markov - Yemelin
Gill - Subban
Gorges - Spacek
Webber

Gill and Gorges will play together on the PK.

OFF-SEASON GAME PLAN: PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Despite losing their two best players to season-ending injuries, the Pittsburgh Penguins finished with their highest point total since 1992-1993.

If the scoring stars return and the goaltending and defence remain strong, then the Penguins should be in good shape heading into 2011-2012.

That doesn't mean GM Ray Shero won't have a busy summer, however. Many of the Penguins' depth forwards are unrestricted free agents and not all will be able to fit under the salary cap, which will mean making hard choices that are likely driven by finances.

"I really don't have a sense for it," Shero told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I don't know what the next three weeks will bring. I'm hopeful we'll sign a few of these guys."

But, in the grand scheme of things, if a team's big personnel concerns are in the third and fourth-line spots, those are the woes of contenders

We all see flashes of him and expect more. I think for the $ his output is just fine. If he wants more, he's going to have to elevate his game. I don't think he's willing to play for Jacques Martin though.

If everyone plays to their potential and is healthy, we have a pretty decent first 2 lines.

And the rest: Pouliot, Desharnais, White; Darche (UFA), Halpern (UFA)

If they find a better player, Pouliot is gone.
