The Japanese single disc edition has great A/V, and I'd imagine the German one uses the same transfer (judging by online reviews).

But why are you buying them on eBay? You can get these cheaper through Amazon and elsewhere. In fact, the Japanese disc is only $9.68 new on CDJapan right now:

Yes, I've been importing stuff from Japan through them for many, many years. Very reliable, competitive prices and very English-friendly (it's why I tend to use them over Amazon.jp, which can sometimes be trickier to use for non-Japanese natives). Quick shipping, too.

If you end up importing a lot of stuff from Japan, they have a nice rewards points system, too.

I've been looking to get this as well and considering that the A/V is the same, I really dig the Japanese cover art the most.

I have the Japanese disc. I like the novelty of having the Japanese cover art in my collection.

As far as the Blu Ray image, I saw a 35mm screening of Lost Highway at the Alamo in Yonkers, NY a few weeks ago and can confirm the Blu Ray transfer is not accurate. The print I saw came direct from Universal and shows that the film is intended to be much darker. Based on caps from DVDBeaver, the US Universal / Focus Features DVD is the most accurate to what I saw in the theatre.

Lynch is busy with the Twin Peaks sequel, but I hope he or the cinematographer find a moment to supervise a remaster of this wonderful film. I've been waiting for it since forever. And after seeing the remaster of Mulholland Drive the pain is even stronger.

I never saw it in a theater, but judging by trailers and the Universal DVD, it looks more striking and atmospheric with darker image.

I only have the Japanese single disc. I ordered from cdjapan. I make a few orders from there a year, but I order in bulk. Very safe shipping with fedex.

I think last year I paid 13.xx for Lost Highway.

The only down side to the Japanese version is the lack of English subtitles. It is region A, 1080p, and LPCM audio. I have hearing damage, so some of the beginning audio was difficult to hear without really cranking the volume, but then I'd have to lower it when the saxaphone played. Its a few scenes like that. Again, I need subs.

As others have said, the Japanese cover looks great, I love it. Mine arrived in a translucent smokey grey/black case. Looks unique on my shelf.

Not ideal but by simply turning the brightness down on my TV I can make the French Blu look pretty much like the Universal DVD...

There is an alternative German version which has different artwork to most of the rest - that's the one I went for. Same disc as the other German one (I checked this first hand).

Yeah some of those images look better than others but as long as the overall image quality is good I'll be happy. I'm not going to let some trivial thing like that ruin my enjoyment of the movie. I don't get hung up on little things, I find if I do then I find I don't enjoy it as much as I could if I just enjoyed the movie itself.

I grew up watching standard definition broadcast tv and VHS tapes so I'll never complain about an HD blu ray movie because of something so trivial. I like good quality but ultimately I love a movie for the movie itself.

If you'll take a look at Mulholland Drive (same DOP), at similarly lit scenes, it's nowhere near as "washed out" and bright as the blu of Lost Highway. I'm not saying my tweaks are how this movie should look, absolutely not, but glossier, darker, more contrast and vibrant image, IMO, works in favor of the movie. How the film should really look - only the filmmakers can answer.

The aus version is very nice. Plus I like to have covers in the language the film was released in
