I was really hoping this was an announcement.

During the format war, this was a rumored HD DVD title that never materialized. I seem to recall that it was going to be the theatrical cut only, and the release got scrapped for that reason. Hopefully they will take the time to do it right.

It would be nice if the do an Ultimate Edition like the DVD, that set is very nice and complete.
although I believe there are actually 3 different versions, I have a European Cut, Theatrical and the Director's Cut (which both are in the Ultimate DVD set).
well 4 versions if I count the extended Fan Edit I got from a friend a while back LOL.

These are two of my most anticipated titles as well.

That said, I would be happy to wait a little longer for both of these titles as long as they are done properly with all the special features and different versions carried over.

This is one of my favorite fantasy movies of the 80s other than The NeverEnding Story and Labyrinth. My preferred version is the longer European version with Jerry Goldsmith's epic and soothing score(one of his best imo) I hated the director's cut ending on the Ultimate Edition DVD. I thought Jack and Lily running together into the sunset is a perfect ending for a fairy tale that spends half the time in 'darkness'. Scott's bittersweet ending just doesn't cut it. Hopefully they'll release all 3 versions in blu-ray format somewhere not too far into the future.

I actually prefer the Tangerine Dream soundtrack to Gerry Goldsmith's. Would be welcomed into my Blu collection

I like the longer cut to but definitely like Tangerine Dream's score better, probably because that is what I got used to.

Ditto. And I am particularly partial to Loved by the Sun with Jon Anderson of Yes singing vocals with Tangerine Dream that is at the end of the film.

Also like the Bryan Ferry song Is Your Love Strong Enough played during the credits.

+1 I myself also prefer the Tangerine Dream Soundtrack.I have the Ultimate Edition on DVD but still prefer the original score over the remastered version. Here's to hoping Ridley Scott makes this as outstanding as Blade Runner was.

I've only seen the U.S. theatrical version - but I hear Goldsmith's soundtrack is really good

This happens to be one of the last movies from the 80's genre that I'm dying for!!

I have a feeling it we won't see the light of day for some time

I didn't see Legend until recently; I was impressed with the production of the film; I'd love to see a quality transfer.

Universal awhile ago has transferred the US theatrical cut to hidef - since it had aired on HDNet Movies in 2008 - from an email to them I asked why HDNet couldn't get the 'Directors cut' - they did want to air it, but Universal hadn't done a HiDef version of that version.

As for my favourite cut of the film, it has to be the International cut of the film.

Also the TV cut, where there is a scene that wasn't included in the deleted scenes section of the 'Ultimate DVD' where Jack and crew bump into some creatures in Darkness dungeon and a brief fight/chase occurs.

to go off tangent for a sec, Scott needs to take a break from all his recent movies and sit down and cull some more extras for the bluray of 'Legend' AND a restored cut of 1492: Conquest of Paradise - come on, please?!? is this really too hard to ask and accomplish?
