I plan on Mounting my TV next weekend and at the moment looks like I'm going to wall fish 4 Hdmi cables. I have $600.00 left and was thinking should buy the receiver and use it as a switch untill I get the speakers so I just have to run 1 Hdmi cable down the wall.

Plus they are good too at 'receiving', as in doing a good job at amplifying, preamplifying, tuning, and a bunch of other stuff too. ![]() Last edited by LordoftheRings; 06-27-2010 at 09:10 PM. Reason: missing letter |

* If it's permanent (well, a year or two) then I might be able to direct you in the right direction. ![]() I got few Onkyo receivers myself (among Denons, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamahas & few more ...), and I also use various Paradigm model speakers in some of my systems. You were saying your budget was $600. You can get the Onkyo TX-NR807 for that budget. Just Google it, and read the specs and features, plus some reviews too... Conclusion: Excellent receiver, and at that price it is even better. ![]() Or perhaps you are attracted by Marantz? Denon? Yamaha? Pioneer Elite? HK? Sherwood Newcastle? ... I know them all. Just tell me all the electronics you're using right now (TV display model # & brand, BD player, speakers,...) and your room's dimensions. Shangri-la. Yes it will be a permanent component. I plan on getting the paradigm monitor 7s with an Ed sub around Christmas. I have right now is just the TV samsung Ln52a650, a Blu ray player Bds-350 (will have a PS3 soon) and a HD cable box.
I have always liked the Onkyo and Pioneer Elite models. I like the Black glossy of the Pioneer by a margin. |

The owners of these Pioneers (threads) will be able to tell you who's got the best deals. Do you want a brand new one or is a refurb or a private sale OK? |

Well if I went for an Elite it would be one of the lower end models vsx 21 but if Onkyo is going to give me a lot better performance at that price point then I will go that way. I do want something new and will last for a few years.I also might be picking up a 3d Tv next year maybe if that matters.

And if you go the Onkyo route, the 807, for $550. * The VSX-23 at the very minimum. I know some people that got an SC-05 for $700 about 5-6 months ago (open box). I can't recall the store (Vann's perhaps). Deals are always there, and if you don't mind open box, or refubs, or from private sales, then... But the Onkyo 807 (excellent receiver) is $549.99 right now (reconditioned) with a full year warranty from Accessories4Less. That is a very sweet deal in my humble opinion. And it ain't a bad looking receiver either (perhaps not like a cute Elite) but still attractive with most of its buttons hiding under a flip door. Check Onkyo web site... With your $600 you can get a Pioneer Elite receiver from last year models.
Just don't settle for less. ...Unless your budget is half of that. And if you wait a month or so when the new Pioneer 2010 models go on the market, you'll be able to pick that SC-05 for the price you want brand new, I'll venture. Meanwhile, check Pioneer own website to gather some info. And do the same on the Onkyo side. Too bad you won't go for a refurb Onkyo or Marantz receiver from Accessories4Less as there are great deals right now. And besides you'd still have a full year warranty by the manufacturer, from a reputable, solid and authorized Audio/Video shopping store. Have a great week, Bob |
