I did not know where the most appropriate place to post this but I wanted to see if other members are having issues with audio dropouts during game play. More specifically, Lord of the Rings Conquest. I just picked up this game (brand new) about a week ago and noticed immediately that the sound would cut out multiple times every few minutes. The loss in audio would only be less than a second.
Here is some background on my system and connections. I have my PS3 (60GB, launch system) hooked up to my Pioneer SC-27 through HDMI and then out to my screen through HDMI. All audio settings have been checked (except for AAC) under the XMB Sound menu. Although it does not affect games, the audio out has been set to LPCM for DVD/Blu-ray playback. At first I thought it was connections, bad wires, etc. but I tried every PS2 and PS3 game (including countless movies) and never once did I have any audio dropout. The source seems to be the PS3 because as I was checking my catalog of games, the PS3 seems to output all game audio as PCM (confirmed by the display on my receiver). For whatever reason, the PS3 outputs audio from LOTR:Conquest as bitstreatm (dolby digital). This is the only game that my PS3 will actually bitstream instead of converting it to multi-channel PCM. I did one further experiment where I unchecked the Dolby Digital 5.1 setting under the XMB sound menu. I restarted the LOTR game and found that the audio dropouts had vanished. However, my receiver now says that the PS3 is now outputting PCM 2.0 channel. I guess I could matrix this audio with my receiver to get 5.1, but it just does not sound as good. Also, if I leave the DD 5.1 unchecked permanently, will this affect my DVD/BD compatibility, even though I have it set to convert all audio to LPCM? Is this an issue that anyone else has experienced, maybe more specifically with this game? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
