Default You guys know of a Warner release that is region locked?

I'm asking since I got curious, a member here said 99% of Warner's releases are region free, I jokingly answered no to him and said 99.9%
So I got curious if you guys know of any...

What is the point? As long as it plays in the Blu-ray player I purchased at a Best Buy in the United States, I don't really care. It doesn't affect and I don't typically care if my Blu-ray title is Region Free.

I have purchased 118 Blu-ray titles, designated for the United States, Region A, and I'm quite happy with them. Now, if retailers were able to stock and sell Blu-ray titles from other regions (I would love to purchase the Godzilla Blu-ray titles from Japan) but U.S. retailers don't stock or sell them. So, it's worthless to even think about it. I just don't find myself leaving the U.S. region anytime soon so "Region A" is the only thing that concerns me.

Warner was one of the studios/distributors who voted for HD DVD to not have region coding because they believed that it was both ineffective in stopping cross-importing and very consumer unfriendly.

They continue this practice with Blu-ray Discs and the only reason Blu-ray Discs, in general, have region codes is due to Fox and Disney who wanted the format to have them.

Warner does not have any plans now or in the future to use region coding on titles they distribute.

Its not 99.9% of Warner titles, it is 100% of all the titles they distribute themselves. If another distributor has the rights to a Warner title like Entertainment In Video UK or Alliance Canada then there is a chance it could be region locked.

In fact, New Line Home Entertainment did their own distribution before being absorbed into Warner and their Blu-ray Discs for The Golden Compass, Harold & Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay, Rush Hour 3, and Shoot 'Em Up are all Region A. New Line wanted to enforce region coding on new to video releases but catalog titles like Pan's Labyrinth are region free. When Warner took over distribution that practice pretty much went out the window. Run Fatboy Run was already completed by New Line Home Entertainment so it is the last new to video New Line title to be region coded. All New Line titles in the US after that are handled by Warner and are region free.

You would be concerned if you ordered from Amazon UK to get fantastic prices on many box sets compared to the US. Also, some releases have better PQ/AQ than their US counterparts. Why buy a title (for example Twister) in its US incarnation when the UK release is way better. Twister is region ABC so it plays everywhere. You would need to know that info (unless you have a universal player).

Considering that certain titles in the UK cost less than half of what they do in the US, even with shipping you'd still pay less.

I got the Bourne Trilogy from Amazon UK for $30 TOTAL (shipping included and no tax). That certainly beats the $50 price tag on the US version. Same goes for the Spider-Man Trilogy I bought. Same price, $30 total.

Precisely

It's such a rare chance to communicate in danish here, so I'll translate what I just wrote if you should be interested.

Yes, we actually have 6 stores here in Nuuk that sells Blu-rays, the prices ranges from 33 Dollars to 42 Dollars and one store even sells Blu-rays for 45 Dollars!!! And people buy them...

Thanks, now I know some european releases are region locked, which wouldn't matter much to me anyways.

I just added 3 movies to my cart. Shipping to Michigan was $7.69. That's not bad at all, especially to get quality releases that we won't see in the U.S.

You can't just look at the shipping rates. Some of the boxsets are ridiculously low-priced as compared to US:

Bourne, Matrix, Band of Brothers, Mission Impossible just to name a few.

Their prices more than make up for the shipping cost (standard, of course).

Exactly. I'm really glad that I worked out the ins-and-outs of UK blu-ray ordering with the help of the folks here at Blu-ray.com . It's really opened my horizons to new movies, and to titles which may also be less expensive and of better quality. You can't beat that
