First pro-tip: The two boldfaced statements above are mutually exclusive.

Monster cables are the most overpriced junk I've seen come onto the market in a very long time. Buy your cables online for $6-10, not $100.

Go to monoprice.com for your HDMI and other cables.

Thumbs up Monoprice!

I third or fourth that.

I have tried the Monster cables, and they don't make any difference that I could see or hear. Monoprice are excellent quality at a very reasonable price.

Also, their HDMI cables are available in various lengths. I got the shortest ones (which is cheapest) and so I have less cable clutter behind my system.

i'd personally go for a receiver as it offers you more flexibility and power than htibs.one hdmi equiped would be great but you are on a budget and may not want the added expense but, if you can swing it go for it .and never buy monster cable.

I agree, dump the monster cable and give monoprice a try. I've seen prices on monster hdmi cable that'll get you 35%-40% of the way toward an entry-level receiver and speaker package. A cheap receiver/speaker package + cheaper hdmi cable is a much better solution than a monster hdmi connection to your TV.

Instead of buying an HTIB.. why not get a good receiver now and just buy 2 front speakers for the meantime... save more money then get a SUB woofer like SVS or HSU or alike.. save more money ... then buy the other 2 rear speakers.. and a center speaker later if desired.

My point is .. if you don't have the money right now to buy the right gears then do not settle for something that you are not going to enjoy .. buy them incrementally.

I'm going to reitorate, and emphasize what others have already said:

1. Do not buy Monster Cable products. They are very good, but extremely overpriced and a suckers purchase. Monoprice has phenomenal quality for 1/10th the cost.

2. The TV should be over very good quality for you, of course, the benefits of 1080p on a 46" display only kick in if you are viewing from about 8' away from the screen. Either way, it's a solid piece.

3. Do not buy a POS home theater in a box (HTIB)! Save your money and buy a nice audio system to match up nicely. Keep in mind, if you don't have HDMI 1.3 in the receiver, then you are likely not going to pass HDMI 1.3 onto the display, so you want HDMI 1.3 compatibility all around.

Recommended:
Denon will have 13 new receivers on the market this year all of which will include HDMI 1.3 compatibility. These receivers will start under $400 and will give you at least 2 HDMI 1.3 inputs for audio/video switching.
http://usa.denon.com
Some models are up on their website already, but the rest will be out within a few months. Details of the new receivers can be found here:
http://www.audioholics.com/news/indu...receivers.html

I would go ahead and save some cash now and then when these hit the streets, pick one up and match it up with some decent speakers. This is a real receiver that you will be able to use 10 years from now, not one that you will outgrow quickly. Then match it up with some decent speakers. There are TONS of good speakers out there, so shop around and try out tons of different models.

For a subwoofer... Well, I swear by Velodyne and JL Audio. Neither are inexpensive by any means, but Velodyne is often available on eBay used for at least a halfway decent price.

Hello in regards to the setup your getting or already have. First in regards to the Monster cables I believe they can make a difference as I have seen a better picture come from a monster cable over an acoustic research cable. But before you buy the cables try WWW.FACTORYDIRECT.CA and search there Monster cables supply. Its last year models but far far far cheaper. Also look at the PURE/AV POWER CONDITIONERS THE PF31D IS CAD and the retail is around 500+ Great unit. As for the rogers HD PVT I have this unit and when it was connected via HDMI it never recorded any shows with the turned off (or when it was on if I remember correctly) I went through 3 units and they all did the same. So I would highly recommend using Component cables for that unit so you don't waste money on the HDMI cables as I did. Also if you are in Canada using rogers cable they will not provide you with any technical support for the HDMI connection (in there words they didn't supply it so they don't support it) Also as for samsung surround HTIB its probably not HDMI 1.3 if it even has HDMI. I would highly recommend an A/V receiver such as the very well priced Onkyo TX-SR605 which is HDMI 1.3 and is capable of all available audio format decoding and is as future proof as you can get. It retails for 699CAD at www.electronicsforless.ca and if manufacturers warranty doesn't matter to you its available on Ebay for around 350USD plus 79USD shipping, even after duty and brokerage fees you will still save hundreds of dollars. P.S. Check the factorydirect website for almost any electronics device or accessory you can think of and they have many monster and PUREAV products for ridiculous prices and low S&H. I hope this will help you in some way in making a decision
