Default Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition

Why has this not been released yet? How did the Batman set come out so quickly and this is being held up?

He means that the Batman Anthology has been released on Blu-ray, but the Superman set hasn't (only single releases of Donner's films and Superman Returns). My guess is WB's waiting for their Superman reboot in 2012 to release the Ultimate Collector's Edition set in HD.

The Ultimate Edition DVD was sweet; all five movies (bad ones and all ), with two versions of the first two films, plus eighteen or so original cartoons and an old George Reeves film, plus shedloads of other extras including two feature-length documentaries and the Bryan Singer journals. It takes up 14 discs.

And I won't upgrade any "Superman" movie to BD unless they include all five movies and the extra documentaries, cartoons, and bonus films.

Yea, I thought that way too but got tired of waiting. I have the Superman The Movie and the Donner Cut. I do want the complete set though. I don't understand why WB would wait as Begins was not included in the Batman Anthology release nor the BluRay counterpart as it was a re-starting of the franchise. This new Superman movie will be a revamp(reboot, retooling, restarting) of the franchise so it will have no connection with the Donner films. Unless I'm misunderstanding what WB and Godfather Nolan are doing.

I think the only connection between the reboot and releasing the existing Superman collection on BD would be that the collection would raise publicity, hype, and revenue from the reboot's theatrical release. If they release the collection before the theatrical release, they could profit from the collection's sales. In fact, they could re-release the whole set with new exclusive footage, trailers, sneak peeks, etc to make the set and movie even more hype-worthy.

But I'm only speculating. "Superman" 3 and 4 were pretty bad, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have no plans to ever release them on BD. Or if they do, they might just be packaged with the first two existing BDs in a cheap box. Which would be a shame, since the current BDs seem to be missing some cool stuff ("Superman II" is only the Richard Donner cut, not the theatrical, and both movies seem to be missing a few extras here and there). In either case, I'm pessimistic about it.

Well the recent news could be interesting in regards to the BD. I know there is footage (almost half a movie) that was removed from Superman IV. From the few short clips I have seen throughout the years, it was not good, but for the completest I want it. Nothing can top the $10 mil spent on the intro to Returns we haven't seen with the flying through the destruction of Krypton. I still want all my Superman movies on BD with as much extras and special features as they can slam into them. Get at it Warners.

I can't believe they spent that much on a scene they never used. From what I read it was supposed to be an amazing and epic scene too. That really needs to be included in a future release!

There might be a boxset coming when the new Superman movie is released.
