Default New X-Files movie

Do you think that with the release of the new X-Files movie (if it does ever get made) Fox will release the entire series and the previous movie on Blu? I know the first 4 seasons were SD but couldn't they maybe at least be transferred in 720p?

ALL the seasons were SD, the later seasons were composed widescreen.

All seasons were filmed, so they are HD "ready", just the first 4 would be at 1.33 ratio and "pillarboxed".

Who knows?

I'd like another X Files Movie I guess! Even if the rumours state it will be a stand-alone picture, nothing to do with the as-yet unfinished conspiracy plot!

Yeah, they're making another film which takes place after the show but it will be a stand alone story. Here are some links:

One of the great things about Blu-ray is that you can put SD material on it just as well as HD. The first several seasons of X-Files could be released on Blu-ray at one season per 50GB disc in SD using the AVC codec and yielding cleaner copies than can be had at the same bitrate using MPEG2 on DVDs. Therefore, you could upscale them and still achieve a very acceptable picture.

As has been discussed in the past, that will simply never happen becuause of the percieved value issue

They'll either go back and retransfer seasons 1-4(and half of 5) or not do it at all.
