Default Panasonic 58" Plasma

I'm in the market for a new TV for our 3 season porch (the 27" tube needs to go). The room has a pretty good amount of light so I'm wondering how much of an issue a plasma would be (glare). The TV would primarily be used for watching HDTV content and possibly some blu-rays, but I have a 110" projector set up in my basement for movies won't be a huge focus.

I was originally thinking LCD because of the light, but I've read some comments here that the anti-glare on some plasma's has improved significantly. And since my viewing distance will be 12-15ft, the plasma would allow for a little bigger screen. I ran into this older Panasonic 58" Plasma (TC-P58S2) at BB for under $1600 which seems like a whole lot of tv for the money.

I would love to hear how you think this would fit with my application.

Thanks in advance!

the s2 is actually not old, its a current model. I would think that LCD would be a better choice for an outdoor ish tv. just my opinion

Pannasonic 2010 models as a anti-reflection screen which won't reflect light, see below my comment to the poster below yours to see the explanation.

Adam last year I would have said the same thing but the new Pannasonic 2010 models are very good now in a room where there is a lot of light. I didn't believe it but tried it with my G20 54 inch and I must say that I'm impressed.

I'm definately glad to hear that the Panasonic has a solid anti-reflection screen! Anyone with S2 experience/opinions?

Well I don't have a personnal experince but I saw a couple of members post here saying that the PQ is very good for the Price, still you should verify the specs of it, not sure the anti- reflection screen is on all Panny's.

Here look here a nice informative post on the 2010 Panny models

The s2 is a fantastic TV. Calibrated you will be hard pressed to see much of a PQ difference with say the V10. Wont have as deep blacks as a VT25, but its good. Amazon has the 54 incher for sub $1200 right now.

Im actually very close to be getting either the 54" or 58" S2 to replace my old DLP set.

IMO the only differences between S2 and G models are the price, the features the Infinit Black and 5 000 000/1 Native Ratio, The S2 Model as 2 000 000/1 native ratio .

i would never care about glare in this more modern day of plasma screen's ..I've heard it in 2001 and most manufacturer's have implemented anti-glare coating's on the plasma tv screen's..

of course it was a common complaint back then by 10 year's ago.

Default Results?

For what it's worth, I ended up bringing my Samsung 50" plasma up from our living room and if fit the bill perfectly. So, I decided to just go out and buy another one. It isn't 1080p, but it is hard to beat the value at $700...and at 12-15', it is pretty tough to notice a difference!

All this TV research has me thinking, is it time to upgrade my projector to 1080p?! Maybe this winter

Thanks to all who chimed in!
