Since they're including the 'Bleached Whale' featurette and audio commentary, it sounds like this will be using the Twilight Time transfer and adding the interview with Angela Allen - ironic, since SC wouldn't give TT access to their transfer of the Lion in Winter when they had the rights.

Isn't that transfer the awful one used also for DvD? Surely SC will be using a new transfer.

Unless SC quietly did a new restoration then it will most likely be the same master as TT.

Which is the best we've got, so it's only a good thing if that master is made more widely available for a lower price. Obviously a full-blown restoration would be most welcome, but it doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon.

This is one of my favorite films, so I almost feel like picking this up for the hell of it even though I already own the TT.

No, it's the transfer that's been tweaked as best as possible within the limited budget and elements available considering it's not financially viable (and may not even be possible now) to remaster with the color process originally used for the film.

I just pre-ordered this from Hive.co.uk, still at £10.50 and with free postage as well. I'd never heard of them before, but I'll keep a close eye on them if their pre-order prices are generally as good as this!

Just received the following email from Hive:

"We are contacting you regarding your recent order for this title. Unfortunately, as per our T&C’s on the website we are unable to supply this item due to a pricing error by our supplier. Therefore, we have had to cancel the order for this item. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Hive".

I thought the £10.50 was too good to be true, it's now been bumped up to £20.89 on their website.

Love the movie but that master isn’t great.

Went from day one to pick up in a sale.

Interesting, even if the same old transfer I've been wanting this film, so I will be getting this since I missed the TT release. Maybe not Day 1, but down the road for sure. Maybe Studiocanal can release Lilies of the Field in the UK?

No, that's MGM/UA. It looks like EMI picked up the UK home video rights in perpetuity back in the late 70s (it was one of the very first VHS releases) and SC inherited them.

In my best Dick Dastardly voice "drat, double drat, and triple drat!", I was hoping maybe they would have the other too. Though, Moby Dick is still good news since I never did manage to get that one.

I can't imagine loads of people have preordered this from Hive surely? You'd think as customer goodwill they'd give you a discount on it for the inconvenience, no? Left to you to decide if you want to go ahead and order.
