I've seen both. I'd go with Minority Report. THX is a weird, but thought-provoking, low budget downer by George Lucas. Minority is a big budget blockbuster, based on a story by Philip K. Dick. It's more nuanced, in my opinion, than THX, and just plain more fun to watch. Both are disturbing at times. |

I'd go with Minority Report too. THX-1138 is cool and is its own achievement, but it's very cold emotionally. Minority Report is much more entertaining and the disc looks excellent. It just has more replay value. I've owned THX-1138 and I think I've seen the extras more times than I've watched the movie.

Minority Report is a very good piece of entertainment and a stellar blu-ray worthy of your money.

THX-1138 is by far the more superior film. Like benjaminh said, it's weird and thought-provoking. The ending scene is epic. Also, his newly-added cgi is done well and didn't ruin anything like let's say adding a mouth to the Sarlac pit did.
![]() Minority Report = typical late Spielbergian slop, which means a lot of fluff and almost zero substance, yet people still drool over it because of the director's name. I didn't like it in the theater so I gave it a second chance not too long ago and just don't care for it at all. |

I have never understood people's interest in THX1138. It's basically 1984, but boring. I don't find myself thinking of anything when I watch it, other than I want to watch something else.
If you want chilling and thought provoking, then read 1984. It's basically a warning about extremest socialism (you know, communism), but can be seen as a story pertaining to any type of police state run amok. If you want to see these themes played out on screen rather than through pages, then pick up V for Vendetta--a much more interesting and original take on 1984. LOL That's when I always shut it off. I'm cool with the whole dystopian life in the city: The all white clothes, shaved heads, the apathy, the recorded religious propaganda. It's when they all get put in the cell and all the so-called philosophy begins that I lose interest. It's not thought-provoking because it is deep, or revealing some truth about the human condition, it's though provoking because it is cryptic and takes everything a person's got to try and see through it. I hate films like that. It's almost like the architect at the end of the Matrix. The first time you see that, you're either a faker saying something like, "Yeah, man. I get it. Really deep, baby," or a normal person that says something like, "What the hell did he just say?"

Minority Report could be seen as 1984 Lite. A sci-fi/fantasy flick that dabbles in the dangers of police-state tactics. There isn't a lot to think about in that film as it is all laid out right in front of you (almost spoon-fed you could say). |

That's what I meant but it was comparing how really thin the Martix was to Minority Report (adding to my "fluff and almost zero substance" quote). It's late and I'm probably not making much sense.
Well, seeing as I'm in the minority (har har) billzfan, if you want the popcorn movie, go with Minority Report.....even though it's lame. If you want the weird, almost arthouse movie (Lucas did make a student film of 1138 which I believe is on the special features), then go with what I suggested. |

I'd go for THX-1138, as it is thought-provoking, and totally unique, and the last shot is one of the most impactful ever, also the new scenes make it look much better, and open up the scope of the film.
But, Minority Report is a more modern science fiction flick with more action and suspense, but I didn't like it at all. It really depends on what kind of movie you are into. ![]() |

I don't think you can go wrong with either (I actually think MR is Spielberg's best), but I'd have to give the edge to THX. It's just so wonderfully odd and different, and a complete contrast to Star Wars. Lucas really shines here.
However, if you dislike everything Lucas did with the Star Wars SEs, stay away from the director's cut of THX, which gets the same treatment. I didn't mind, but it's something to consider. |
