Talking A competitor for SyFy?

This sounds interesting, not quite sure about the name though cause well I can't even pronounce it, but I know there are a lot of Sci-Fi fans around here who have a real problem with the SyFy network and the quality of it's content, so check it out and use facebook to help promote it if you do.

Quote:
Hi friends. All of you should know by now that we've been working over the last couple of years to create a new cable television network. This new network would be for SciFi fans and run by real SciFi fans.

We've been working very hard to come up with a plan that would be attractive and profitable to investors and still create a healthy, sustainable network that would be around for decades to come. We now have that plan. It's going to cost us $60 million to get this network going. Believe it or not, that's a very small amount to start a cable television network and it means we'll have to sacrifice for the first few years. It means very little original programming for the first five years of the network's life in order to keep startup costs low. There are investors out there who like the plan and would like to be a part of something this exciting. We've shown them a plan in which The Syzygy Network can reach profitability in four years.

However, that plan assumes that people will watch the network. The investors have told us that they don't simply want our word that SciFi fans would love to have a new network. They want proof.

Here's how you can be a part of this. We need numbers. Not little numbers...BIG numbers.

DO YOU WANT a new SciFi network???

Then tell people about it. Go to:

The Syzygy Network on Facebook

Like the page. Tell your friends to like it. Tell them to tell their friends.

Let's make this page a phenomenon on Facebook. I've seen the power of the SciFi fan. I've seen it make Star Trek go another year. It worked again for Star Trek: Enterprise, then again for Jericho. Each of those shows got an extra year after the networks had decided to cancel them. That same power resulted in the browncoats getting Serenity, the theatrical movie out of the ashes of Firefly. I've seen full page ads in Variety to the producers of shows like Earth 2.

I've seen SciFi fans change the world, just as SciFi itself did before them. We are a powerful group of people. We have the power to do this. That power comes in numbers.

Help make the Syzygy Network page one of the biggest, fastest-growing pages on Facebook. With the numbers proving that there's room for a new SciFi network the investors won't have call to say no.

Make your voices heard. Let them know you want a new network that believes in you, that loves you and was created by real fans, not some group of corporate net heads (we know how good their decisions about SciFi shows are!). We understand we need to make a profit to survive, but it's not our only motivation.

Syzygy is not all about the bottom line. It's about you. Help us make it happen.

Thanks!
Dave Andrews
CEO and original founder,
The Syzygy Network

I found this among the comments on the page, why didn't they just call it Eclipse than?

Quote:
The name Syzygy (sih-zih-gee) literally refers to any time two or more bodies in our star system align directly with the sun, such as an eclipse, and originally with medieval mystics referred to the rare occurrence when all five known planets would come into direct alignment with the sun, considered a powerful supernatural event in those days.

The sysergy thing or whatever is when 5 align. It compared it to an eclipse to say "hey it's kinda like that, but not exactly that".

And I didn't see Twilight either, just felt like bustin' ya balls for a moment. BTW: you see the PM I sent you earlier?

I would be interested in it, depending on whats on the channel.

I would hope there would be an HD version, at least some of the shows/movies could be HD (as long as they don't do what TNT does to non HD material and Stretch it).

They need over 8700 hours of programming a year on essentially repeats of shows for the first few years.

What would be deemed Sci-Fi, would it include Fantasy or super heroes?

Would something like Highlander, Smallville, Buffy, or Hercules/Xena be on this channel?

Get some of the Canadian and British shows that we don't or didn't really get in the US.
Get some of those series that only made it a season or less or didn't even air all episodes produced like Defying Gravity.

If they can get all Star Trek series and movies that's close to 750 hours right there.

I doubt they will be able to get any of the Stargate episodes or other recent Sci-Fi shows that NBC or SyFy produced as this will be competition for SyFy .

They could have a morning cartoon block with stuff like: Robocop, Back to the Future, or Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters if the channel would include stuff like that. Some of the other Sci-Fi animated cartoons from the 80's: Transformers, Sivlerhawks, Galaxy Rangers, Voltron.

They could also have an Anime block with stuff like Gundam, Nadesico, and Robotech.

Chiller is a NBC Universal sister network of Syfy, covering the horror and suspense genres, so there is some overlap with Syfy's focus on sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. These are not to be confused with Sleuth, which is another NBC Uni channel, covering the crime and mystery genres. I only bring up Sleuth as I've finally come to accept why some TV shows that make an appearance at Comic-Con aren't really odd ducks, like Bones and Castle, which will be having panels this year (although, to be fair, Bones has made quite a number of appearances at the con in the past).
