Default Problems getting my PS3 online

I'm trying to run my PS3 to a wired connection. I've changed it to wired from wireless (what I used to be). Now my PS3 won't optain an IP address. When I try the internet conection settings. On easy it just times out. When I try custom get to a screen that looks like this:

IP Address 0. 0. 0. 0.
Subnet mask 255 255 255 0.
Default Router 0. 0. 0. 0.
Primary DNS 0. 0. 0. 0.
Secondary DNS 0. 0. 0. 0.

All the zeros I can change around to different numbers, but I have no clue what to change them to or where to get the info to change them too. Any help would be greatful. Thanks

You might have to reset your PS3 to its default settings and re-install your ethernet connection.

I've tried that. It's still the same for my PS3. The same wire works fine on my laptop.

Only if you don't put your memory on a memory stick or one of those USB Flash Drives(though it's always recommended to backup your memory on some portable memory device so that you don't lose your memory if anything happens to your PS3 unless it's one of those protected saved data files that some companies make).

I don't have one of those. Hopefully there is another option.

If you have problems with your PS3 you always need to check with the Official Playstation Forums.

This thread will solve your problems.

When I had my PS3 connected via ethernet (I am now running it wireless) I used to have this problem. If I'm not mistaken, it comes from the laptop and PS3 sharing the same IP address. What you should try (and try to do it in this order): unplug the ethernet cable from your laptop, unplug the power from your modem, make sure the PS3 is turned off, plug in the ethernet to your PS3, plug the power back in to the modem, wait for the flashing lights on the front of the modem to stabilize (which means it is booted and receiving the incoming signal), turn on your PS3.

This is how I always had to do it, and it worked for me.

I'll give that a try. I'm going to hit up Walmart and buy an eithernet splitter. Will I still have this problem then?

I've never tried a splitter. I've used a router, and yes I still had the problem with the router. Again, I think it has to do with assigning a different IP address. If the laptop and PS3 both try to utilize the same IP address, it won't let it get online.

You'll have to consult with someone who knows more about these things than I do, but the process I gave you should allow you to do it as a work around.

Ok thanks. I'm going to give that a shot a little later this evening. I'll let you know what happens.

This worked great. Kind of a pain in the butt to do everytime, but at least I know how to get online in the meantime. Thanks

If the problem was conflicting IP addresses, then you can fix this permanently by giving each of your units that connect online a fix IP address:

e.g.:
PS3: 192.198.2.99
Notebook: 192.198.2.98
desktop: 192.198.2.97
PSP: 192.198.2.96
etc

You can set this manually for each device and set your modem to keep using DHCP. That way, the back numbers (99,98,97) are fixed to those devices and if another one connects, he'll start at the front (192.198.2.1) and not cause a conflict.

I've set my modem up like this and I have easily 3-4 devices connected at once without a hitch.

I have been having to same problem for a few months. I will give this a try. I always just turned my laptop off whenever I planned on playing an online game.
