Default Home Theater Satellite Speakers used as PC Speakers Good Idea?

I recently bought a 23" 1080p monitor with an HDMI input but I'm now running into 2 problems. My monitor does not have an audio output jack to pass through HDMI audio and I have to go into the menu to change inputs unless I only keep one of my device turned on then it will autodetect to that input. I'm still within the return period to return my monitor but I don't think I can return my monitor because I already registered it with the manufacturer.

To work around the HDMI audio problem I was considering buying 2 satellite speakers, a subwoofer, and a receiver with HDMI inputs. I would use the receiver as a switch. The speakers I was considering on buying was the Klipsch Quintet which look like the 2.1 promedia PC speakers. And the sub, maybe a Klipsch or a Yamaha 150 watt. Best Buy is selling a Yamaha HTIB 493 series system with the receiver and satellite speakers that will look good on my desk. I have no space for bookshelf speakers on my computer desk so satellite speakers will have to do.

So is it a good idea to replace my PC speakers with home theater satellite speakers and buy a receiver if I'm going to have the speakers on my computer desk?
