Watched this last night and thought it was excellent.
Great tone and bleakness to the film showing how tough it must have been to try and make a life in an almost undiscovered country. The performances were great from Swank and Jones and supporting cast. |

Agreed. One of my favourite films from last year, and makes me wonder why Jones doesn't direct more films. I've loved every one so far - The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and The Sunset Limited were both excellent, and this one was very unique even for a revisionist Western. Great cast and story, and brilliantly directed. I look forward to his next film (whenever that might come along). In fact, I wouldn't like him to rush them out, and instead make them in his own time...especially if they're of this quality.

Much better than Affleck in my opinion. Affleck is good at making a clean film and assembling a decent cast, but Jones can do the same and has proven to be a much sturdier storyteller. I'll always find Jones' films more memorable, personally.

Each to their own but I absolutely adore The Town, Gone Baby Gone and Argo.

Fair enough. I think Gone Baby Gone has been his best so far (though could've done with a heavy trim...seemed to go on forever), followed by Argo and The Town. Will be interested to see what he does next.
