I could probably experiment with this a figure it out myself, but figured some of you could shoot a quick answer out for me.
My BD player is set to PCM. Can I still use my receiver's settings like, "midnight", "DRC"? Or, are these disabled by using the PCM setting? Thanks. Last edited by acritzer; 10-16-2010 at 01:12 AM. |

Typically, DRC is provided by data within an encoded DD or TrueHD bitstream. Only the decoder can apply the DRC. After it is converted to PCM, that option is over.
However, if you have a newer AVR with Dolby Volume or Audyssey Dynamic Volume, those can operate on PCM. |

Your Panasonic BD55 also has DRC for Dolby sources. Simply apply it in the player.
Your receiver says the 920 can apply DRC when decoding both Dolby and DTS sources, although I'm not sure what it does with DTS since DTS does not have metadata for DRC. Perhaps it just uses a generic midnight mode. Also, while DRC is limited to encoded audio sources, you can use Midnight mode on your 920 with PCM. |

Maybe I'll mess around with the midnight setting. Just trying to find away to balance out those titles that really have tough dialogue to hear but HUGE explosions. BUT, I don't want to use it all the time. |
