Default Extra Features

There seems to be a lot of anti-extras dialogue on this site, but I can't tell how much of it is for real, and how much is fanboy anti Hd DVD stuff. I for one, LOVE director's commentaries, and would LOVE to have PiP version of them. Anyone else here like me, who really likes extras, and is excited for when BluRay starts offering the 1.1 stuff? I'm not gonna deny I want these things, just because HD DVD has an advantage over BD right now! I want me some commentaries!

I like commentaries, especially the Tarintino ones, but apart from that i can't stand extras. Some are good most are a waist of time.

I honestly could care less about watching extras myself. I am happy that 1.1 will usher in all the extras we currently don't get though because, like you said, there are those that really want them.

I am almost as interested in filmmaking as much as the films themselves, especially the ones I think are great. On DVD I would hold out for SEs and CEs and SLEs and SLCEs to avoid double dipping, but now that the films are in HD, I find that special enough to buy bare bones editions, Like RoboCop.

I say leave out the extras and give me less compression of audio and video. I just watch the movie. If I want extras I can get on the internet and find much better info than is ever included with movies.
I.E., want more info on 300 search the web for Thermopylae, better yet, read the book.
I could never see myself watching PIP with a director giving me a play by play of his decision making processes for every scene.
This is my opinion and I realize that usually my opinions seem to be in opposition of the majority.

Just imagine, the stupid fun of Dude, Where's My Car's director's commentary, with a picture of the two sitting on a coach watching the movie.

Hmm actually, that'd be freaking hilarious.

When I get a Blu-ray Disc or a DVD, I get it for the movie.
Don't care about what went into the making of, don't want to see the chat with the actors, don't want to hear the director yak for a half hour(or more)... I want the movie.

Extras are extra baggage IMHO.

YMMV

For me I like some extras. It really depends on the movie though. Some classic movies I want to hear a commentary by the director or actors, or some kind of documentary about the movie. There are movies that we should not get a commentary track for, for instance a movie like Ghost Rider...do we really care what the director of that movie thinks about it?

I'd have to say I buy the movie for the movie.
If there are interesting extras I'll watch them. I like them more on the older movies, some of the commentaries and documentaries. I've enjoyed the commentaries on the Simpsons episodes, but have watched very few commentaries on movies.
