Is this the proper area?
Can anyone and/or everyone provide me a list of headphones that I can buy to use with my Onkyo 805 for music purposed. I looked around online a bit but never got into the headphone area so if anyone can point out the good stuff with some recommendations, that would be swell. I'd prefer the larger headphones that cover the whole ear. I don't have an issue spending a few hundred on a nice product.
Would a headphone amp be beneficial also?
I'm having a heck of a time finding stuff. Seems everything is either $50 or below or above $500 (too much).

Brand new Sony MDR-V900HD headphone is sold for less than $30 on Ebay. Its price is $170 at Amazon. I own one and rate it as a great headphone at an exceptional price.

How are they so cheap? I see they are shipping from China...

I see in one picture listing that the foam is a brown color, while the box looks like it is black. What color is yours and did you buy from one of these Ebay listings?

The box and the headphone are black. I bought mine a few months ago from Amazon marketplace for $90. At the time I thought I got a very good deal unitil I found out about the deals on Ebay. I also bought a Rolls 4-channel headphone amplifier real cheap. The headphone that I received is extremely well-made and sounds very good with impressive bass. With the amplifier, it sounds even better. I have two older Sennheisers, a Sony, and a couple of cheap headphones. I prefer this to all of them. I wish I could tell you why they are so cheap from Hong Kong & China. If you are in the market, buy a dozen.

I can recommend the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones as well. They are 32 ohm, so a headphone amp isn't necessary either. They have a really smooth sound, maybe a little bass heavy, but overall they sound very nice. Once I tried them with my music player, I could pick out the difference between lossy and lossless music encodes.

I would be VERY careful buying premium headphones from ebay at really low prices. Chances are they can be knockoffs.

I agree with Grados, although I would step up a little and get at least the SR-125's.

I would also recommend the Sennheiser HD-595s

Both use a 1/4 jack rather than a 3.5, so they are more suited for home use

Ooooh Sennheiser. Now that you bring those up, yes they are a nice choice. A good question to ask would be whether the OP wants open or closed headphones.

Well, I was interested enough to sign up for a PayPal account for the possibility of purchasing those Sony's off of Ebay. Did some more Google work, and came across this site.

Seems to be a ton of fakes out there at least concerning the Sony headphone model. I'm going to have to stay away from that one.

Appreciate all the inputs. I think I will be going with the Grados per the reviews I've been reading. Seems to be a lot for the price. Just got to figure out which model now. I think the SR-125 would be the max though
Is there a significant increase in sound quality using a headphone amp with a budget pair of headphones?
