Directors Guild Noms - Spielberg out, Fincher in - Blu-ray Forum

Usually a good barometer of your Best Director Nominees. Gives me hope that Fincher might steal one this year. But realistically, it's probably between The Artist and the Decendants.

If Fincher nails it this year,it'll be for the wrong movie.But that has happened before to other great directors hasn't it

Happened to a guy named Scorsese quite a few times.

Right now I see Scorsese and Hazavanicus as the frontrunners for this award. I'd bet Scorsese between the two for this AND the Oscar but, well, it's still early.

I'm not too surprised at Spielberg being left out, but I am somewhat surprised that Malick was left out of the DGA nomination booth. I do agree overall with that assessment, yes, but with the effusive praise lavished upon that film particularly from other directors it's surprising on that front.

Other surprise omissions include Refn, Cronenberg and McQueen, but that doesn't effectively rule them out from stealing one, or more, of the Academy noms from Allen, Payne, or even Fincher. But Hazavanicus and Scorsese are locks.

I saw numbers somewhere that the DGA list has matched the Oscar list in the director category around 90% of the time and the DGA winner gets the Oscar an even higher percentage of the time.

Im happy they gave Spielberg the boot. What happened to the guy who made Jaws and Schindler's List?

Id luv to see Scorsese win. It would take a lot of sting of the Departed win and because it rewards directors for taking chances.
