but anyway, is anybody gettin madden this week?

i have a 360 and a ps3, but my ps3 is hooked up to my hdtv and i was planning to buy madden 08 for my ps3, but ea totally screwed sony over because the ps3 version only runs on 30 fps, while the 360 gets 60

i really dont want to buy an inferior version and i dont want to get the 360 version because its not on my hdtv

HD at 30fps > 480i/p at 60fps.

Sports games aren't my cup of tea, but if that's the setup you have, the high definition version will always win.

The 360 version will have higher FPS, but in your case, because the 360 isn't attached to an HDTV, it will not look as good as the PS3 version because it'll be blurrier (a lot blurrier!) at 480i or 480p.

The PS3 versions of the EA football games are all 30 fps this year while the 360's are 60 fps.

The 2k8 football game is also in the same boat.

I've spent enough time with both versions of NCAA 2008 between both systems that, to make a long story short, I don't feel there's enough of an appreciable difference in the end.

The 360 version of the game tends to be more inconsistent on its frame rates whereas at least the PS3 version is rock solid stable. You adjust yourself to the slower paced gameplay and you're set.

The game, as a whole, has some issues on both systems that EA really should consider a patch for, but I know they won't.

The same will be true for Madden. If you can get a stable and conistent 60fps on HD, yes, it's nice to have, but no, it's not the end of the world if you don't have it.

The key word, as usual is: Implementation.

If you have both systems, then you have the luxury of trying both out. I'd try and get both 360 and PS3 hooked up to an HDTV and maybe rent before you buy. Rent both versions of the game or rent one and have a friend bring over the other or something like that.

Pick the one that you like best.


I'll tell you what: I'll be fully on board with any conspiracy theory if I see ANY kind of shortchanging of the PS3 for next year's football games or anything else from EA with Moore over there.

As it is, I'm mildy suspicious. He's a rabid Sony hater and he swapped job with someone at EA Sports the very day NCAA 2008 hit the streets.

We'll see what happens...

does anyone know how the controls are going to be like? i loved ps2 madden 07 and i destroyed people, and when i got the ps3 version, i thought it was garbage, i couldn't even control the game anymore so i stopped playing..i know the gameplay is much improved but can anyone answer my controls question?..either way, according to man law, i have to get this game anyways...

Even if Moore dislikes Sony he wasn't at EA long enough to have the frame rate changed between the two. I read an article not to long ago about a company thinking the ps3 could not handle 60fps, not sure what game it was, might have been Madden.

I know what you mean, its lil less crispy on the runs or run after catch.

they say its a more responsive gameplay, compared to last.

You're used to the fast paced, make the same 4 money plays style of the PS2.

That being said, and there's always a ton of hype...this year's Madden is supposed to be really good.

If you really disliked Madden 07 on PS3 last year, then you may want to consider renting this first.

I don't understand what answer you're looking for, especially since the game isn't even out yet.

Madden controls are Madden controls. You'll probably be able to map most of the buttons like they allowed in NCAA 2008 this year.

I can guarantee you it still won't feel super fast like the PS2 version and you'll have to actually read players and have some skill vs. using the same handful of easy money plays like the PS2 version.

If NCAA 2008 is anything to go by, the AI will be GREATLY improved.

...either way, according to man law, i have to get this game anyways...

I suspect you'll like it in the long run as will I.

May want to rent first because it's going to be an extension and improvement on what you saw with Madden 07 last year on PS3. If you really strongly hated that game, then again, you may want to consider renting this first.


There are some issues that I saw in NCAA 2008 on both 360 and PS3 that I'd better see fixed for next year and I'll be curious to see if they show up in Madden as well.


Ideally, I'd like to see EA put out a patch, but they have never have yet for any of these games and I suspect they never will.

The one thing the old gen games still have over these is simply super fast, super crisp, instant responsiveness and I'll probably feel the same way going through Madden 08.

I suspect we'll have to wait until next year's batch of games before we really start feeling like the next gen games are running at full throttle.

Well, here are the first of the reviews coming out.

1up gave Madden 08 360 a 9/10 and marked down the PS3 version to an 8.5/10 which I think is pretty fair for the difference the fps issue makes.

.5 tells you something but it's not this end of the world difference.

This still annoys me anyways.

What they've described here is more or less what's kept me at "liking" NCAA 2008 but I'm not dying in love with it this year. It's just too damned slow for my tastes and this is the main reason why.

Believe me: You will find few people MORE displeased about this then I am.

It's a pity that EA and 2k both decided to simply do immediate, rushed 360 ports and unfairly screw the PS3 over like this.

Is it the end of the world? No, but it just is one of those things that just shouldn't be.

And for this fps crap that ea is doing, i have decided to boycott any of there games from here on out. It's not a huge problem with the framerate thing(I think we look to much into this issue btw), it's the pricipal. Ea mustv'e forgot who made them the ton of money that they do have, I can give you a hint, it wasn't Microsoft. I have a 360 but to play madden with those big gigantic controllers is so stupid. Ask ea how much they have made from sales of the ps2 version in the last 6-7 years and then ask them how much they have made from the microsoft brand combined. It's not even close, all sony has to do is threaten ea and with not allowing them to release madden on any of there systems and see how many units they sell, they'll be begging sony to allow the use of the PS brand. Thanks for nothing ea, this coming from someone who still owns a sega genesis copy of madden. I know my one copy wont make much of a difference but word of mouth can.
