The reciever is the same as the Onkyo 60x Series that everyone on the board seems to love (appears to be the 607), and the speakers (on paper at least*) seem to have a better fequency response than the Polk's. * Polk's = 20khz - 135hz for satellite's, 200hz - 40hz for sub Onkyo = 20khz - 70hz for satellites's, 120hz - 25hz for sub |

I'd recommend this receiver. It's cheaper and does everything you need:
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR607...3162784&sr=1-3 That would leave just enough money for these: http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Quinte...162909&sr=1-37 |

Yeah, good catch. I missed the fact that a sub wasn't there.
He can probably find a decent sub on Craig's List fairly cheap. I see them all the time. The better quality speakers would be worth it, even if he had to wait a little while for a sub. Those floor standing speakers might give enough bass to hold him, till he can get a sub. |

I second the Onkyo HT-S6200 system. It has everything you need right in the box and is super easy to set up. Check http://www.amazon.com for the best price !

Hello Guys...I'm having the same issue but I just dont want spend that amount of money..tho I'd like to get HD audio and set my system for future updates. So something around $500 or less..does anyone can suggest me something ?
I'm just the regular user for a set of full hd tv, ps3, HT plus downloaded blu-rays via ps3 that can work properly without sounds distortions. I dont do crazy loud sounds or play ps3 15hrs a day or watch blu ray everyday..just wouldn't like to mess my first HT up. I was thinking about the Onkyo 5200..maybe its the only thing i can get with my budget.. :/ Hope u guys can give me a hint. OP: sorry about get into your post. |

Thanks everybody for all the input so far, I like seeing options! I'm new to anything that comes to audio with a HT. I have another question, for all those showing me speakers that are shelf-speakers, what do you recommend to hold them? Mounts or speaker stands? I'm currently renting right now but my fiance and I have been in the house market trying to find a home. Keep the advice coming fellas.

I don't know why everyone is making fun of HTIB. There are some that are very good. I used to have an ONKYO HTIB and it worked awesome for me and sounded awesome as well.
People need to realize not everyone can afford to piece together higher end system and/or some just don't wanna deal with buying separately and want it all together and also want everything the same brand. |

What is the primary use for the system? Music, Movies, Video games, or TV?
If you're serious about building a good system, spend your money where it counts. Music: large tower speakers (2.0 system) Movies: Receiver that can extract HDMI audio for HD-codecs from blu-ray(example- Sony 800), center channel is most important speaker, then sub and front L/R, then surround. You can go with some inexpensive bookshelves for rears to save money. Video Games: 5.1 setup with small identical speakers is fine. Don't worry about a big center or big front speakers. TV: 3.1 recommended with good center channel. Surround speakers optional If you're like me and use it for all of these purposes, here is what each channel is important for, and you can decide where to spend the money: Center: Dialogue. This is where 70-80% of movie and TV sound is sent. Front L/R: Music, main sound effects during action scenes. Sub: A must for movies. Plays the LFE channel that even large tower speakers are not designed for. Compensates for other small speakers. Surrounds: Movie and Video game effects. Minimal use in TV. Not used for 2.0 music listening. Don't spend much money here initially. Other things to keep in mind: -db sensitivity of speakers. 3db increase in speaker sensitivity halves the power requirement. If you want to crank it like a theater experience, look for something above 87db. Otherwise you will experience clipping(when cranked), which sounds bad and ruins speakers. For a large room you want good db sensitivity AND high wattage from receiver. 100 watts is plenty for a small room. Surround speakers don't need a high sensitivity. -Frequency response of speakers. 80hz or lower for the center and fronts is ideal, look for rating of 60hz or lower ideally. This is because sounds above 80hz sent to the subwoofer will ruin the experience. |

Because of this site I was swayed from buying Bose, more posters than I can count said all you're paying for with Bose is brand name and whatnot and that they aren't as good as some of the other options.
Long story short... I ended up buying the Onkyo HT-S6200 |

How much did u pay !? The only annoying thing is that it doesnt do hdmi audio..but I guess its just a detail..nothing than an optical cable doesnt resolve. |

I used to have an Onkyo HTiB. I had the HT-SP908. I believe it was the predacessor to the current HT-S6200. It came with an TX-SR605, which was a solid entry level receiver. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't have pre-outs. The speakers and sub are good for HTiB speakers, but IMO you would be better off taking your money and buying a receiver with pre-outs (and they're out there for good prices) and buying the Klipsch speaker setup linked to above by emoxley. You wouldn't have a subwoofer, but if you were then able to save up another $200-$300 you could buy a much better sub than what comes in the Onkyo HTiB.
I think the Onkyo HTiB speakers are the most inefficient I've ever seen so I had to turn the receiver up quite loud to get the volume I wanted. Klipsch are much, much more efficient and can produce much greater volume with less power. That's the way I would go if I were you. However, if you really want to go with an HTiB I don't think you can do any better than an Onkyo setup. |
