Default Moonstalker (1989)

Well... where do I begin?

This was just released on Amazon by FilmRise. It's a BD-R, but it's a legitimate one at that. I don't know about the quality as I just ordered it, but I'm fairly confident in that this will be an upscale since the version on FilmRise's youtube channel is in 1080p but indeed an upscale. I sincerely hope that I'm wrong and that this is indeed a true HD-release of this forgotten slasher flick though!

Now here's the funny part. I was actually the one who released this in Scandinavia many years back. The edition was pretty much as good as it would get with a long featurette as well as commentary track with many people involved in the film since the director had unfortunately passed away. As there was no good poster available for the movie, I designed the cover art myself. At this point I was a very inexperienced designer. This cover is, to my big surprise, the same one used for the blu-ray in the US ten years later. So for those of you who do buy it, I must apologize for this artwork as I'm the one responsible for it

Anyway, as I said though I do hope this really is HD and I can not wait to get the disc regardless.

What in all of the f*cks...

I hate buying BD-R's but they've got me on this one. It can't look worse than the VHS-rip I bought *four copies of* at a mall Dollar Store! lol

Never seen this but I've always wanted to and have been sitting on a terrible VHS rip for a while. Might have to finally watch it to see if it's worth the blu-ray purchase

Fair warning: Moonstalker isn't a particularly good film. But it does have that late-'80s slasher charm, something many fans of the subgenre will eat up. It's super cheesy at times and genuinely impressive at others (specifically the corpse scene by the campfire).

I hope you enjoy it, but honestly it's a toss up. You'll either love it or absolutely hate it.

I ordered a copy hoping for the best. It's a blind buy so even if it turns out to be awful I'll be comforted by the fact I only spent about $14. Not expecting much with the PQ , though. Most likely a VHS rip.

Moonstalker arrived today and I am watching it right now. It is full frame and it does not look HD at all.

I've never seen this film before, and as a fan of 80s slashers (the good, the bad and the ugly) I'm glad to have it. I just wish the print was better, but something tells me this is probably the best it is ever going to look.

Unless a label that isn't in the business of pimping out cheap dump bin titles ever gets their hands on it, I sadly must agree with you. That's been the case with much of Artistview's catalog though, unfortunately. It's a shame because they've really got some fun movies begging to be rediscovered.

Just got this in the mail, same version that's in 1080p on YouTube, in other words it's a really rough interlaced upscale.

Watched this yesterday. It was enjoyable. Not a masterpiece or anything but I've definitely sat through worse 80s slashers.

It's an upscaled DVD so you probably shouldn't.

I'm glad this was posted here. I picked it up and as an 80s slasher fan I thought this was a lot of fun. The bluray looks more like VHS but whatever. It's cheap. I'm glad I picked it up.

Would love for Vinegar Syndrome to get ahold of this. I know they’re on here occasionally so please, guys, make this happen. This deserves and respectable release.

Nice! Now if we can just get Deodato’s Body Count. I swear there has to be some kind of rights issue holding that up because there’s no way it wouldn’t have gotten a release by now if there weren’t.
