Default 1080p / 24 Receivers

..did a search, didn't see any answers to this, point me to a thread if I missed it....

Just checkin' to see if anyone could list for me currently (or soon to be currently) available 1.3a receivers that do handle the 24fps video @ 1080p passthrough by HDMI.

Sony now has 5 coming that handle it I believe. There are 3 ES receivers and two STRs out or coming out.

What does 1.3a add over just 1.3? I was planning to get the Onkyo 605 but now you've got me worried as I don't remember seeing that it passed 1080P/24 video but just assumed that it did.

I've been looking at that receiver and I also cannot confirm that it passes 1080 p/24 signals. I did read (i think on CNet) that it actually DOWNconverts 1080i signals to 720p (tho I've read there's not much difference).
I dunno what the "a" really means. I think that when one refers to "1.3" the actual full term is "1.3a" (meaning the terms are one and the same).

techies correct me if I'm wrong.................

i believe the "a" is the current revision history of hdmi 1.3. future revisions if any would have a different letter designation. pioneer elite has just released their model vsx-94txh. you might look at that, the specs are impressive.

I have a PS3 hooked up to an Onkyo 605 and a Samsung HL-T6189S. It handles 1080p/24 flawlessly. I would be more concerned with the TV handling the 24 than the receiver. My TV does that great, but it is pretty close to top of the line and only a few months old. Other Samsung models have been having real issues with the new PS3 upgrade that lets you force 24 on the PS3. There is an update to correct the issues, but it has helped some and caused problems for others. Good luck.

PS: And this receiver does not down convert or whatever was mentioned above. It displays whatever the source is. But there is a rumor that you can access a service menu of some sort and force it to down convert certain sources to play on a non-1080p TV (so you don't have to go out and buy a new TV to view 1080 sources, if your TV does not support that). But it does not just down covert 1080 sources automatically. I have seen some amazing shit on my TV in all its 1080p glory.

The only source that is downconverted from 1080i to 720p is via component and you output via hdmi. However if the source is component and you output via component, no downconversion will occur. I mainly use HDMI for my video sources so this is not a problem for me. HDMI video is passed as it is.

Denon AVR-2807 also handles 1080/24p flawlessly. It's an older one and I don't think that it's listed in the specs. It's not 1.3 though. As it's an older model you migt be able to get a deal if you can find one. I just recently got a Sony Pearl pj and was afraid I would have to eventually replace my Denon. Was very happy that wasn't the case. I spent a lot of money on it and it's not that old.
