BBC Click showed an article on Super Hi-Vision over the weekend. I thought I'd post it here for general interest. Apparentluy the resolution is 8000 x 4000 pixels, which would make it 2:1 aspect ratio... an improvement over 16:9 (IMO).

While having screens with higher resolution is awesome, specially for gamers, I think we still need to improve on our current technology.

For example, look at a still picture taken from a high-end dSLR camera, and resize it to 1920x1080. Then, take a screenshot from a blu-ray movie. The level of realism and detail from the dSLR picture is just in another league, even when displayed in a 1080p screen. The only movies that look extra sharp are animated movies, cartoons, and some movies shot with RED.

So really, think about it. Unless we have regular movies that look just as sharp as a time-lapse from a dSLR camera, I don't feel we are ready to move on.

Sorry to disappoint, the full BBC article (linked to from your link) lists the resolution as "7680-by-4320" which is still 16:9, I assume they were rounding in the video.

Yeah I agree completely. Highbitrate 1080p (even 1080i) can look absolutely amazing. Yet the HDTV broadcasts that we actually receive at home are very often crap. I'm afraid the same thing will happen with "Super Hi-vision". In the very beginning demo stage it will be like looking through a window, but then content providers will want to cram in 100's of channels and then it will be pointless.

In other words, they should learn to walk before learning to run.
