I've been reading this forum for a while now, and I have a few questions. Before I get blasted with researching articles and other posts on this forum, please note that I believe I have read them all and have not reached an answer.
I have a Sony BDP-S1 run into an Onkyo TX-SR803 via HDMI. For the Blu-Ray discs that contain uncompressed audio, such as Waiting..., what setting should my receiver be set to? When I select the uncompressed 7.1, the receiver defaults to a setting, but there is no sound through the rear speakers. So, I guess first question is: Is the receiver compatible with uncompressed 7.1 or 5.1 audio tracks? And, if so, how do I set up for it? Is it a set-up in the Blu-Ray player, set-up in the receiver, a combination of both? Is the TX-SR803 even capable of passing uncompressed audio, or do I need to upgrade my receiver? I have been able to watch movies in Dolby Digital TruHD and the sound is phenomenal, but if uncompressed is what everyone says it is, then I want to ensure I am getting what I paid for. I would really appreciate your input. Thanks. |

I have the 804 and it pays PCM fine, but only 5.1. I don't have any bluray 7.1 so I could'nt say how it would play. I ending up hooking the 2 back channels to the regular surround sound and it made a huge diff.

Anyone else running an Onkyo TX-SR803 and a Sony BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player? I'd be interested in how you have it configured.

according to the User Manual(pg.36), the 803 is only 5.1 PCM capable.
Supported Audio Formats • 2-channel linear PCM (32–192 kHz, 16/20/24 bit) • Multichannel linear PCM (5.1 ch, 32–96 kHz, 16/20/24 bit) • Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS) Your DVD player must support HDMI Version 1.1. for your set-up, its probably ideal just to output the BDP-S1 as Linear PCM. Because: Dolby® TrueHD Decoding * Yes(after firmware upgrade higher than ver.2.00) (download v2.0) ...this way it will Internally decode TrueHD and send via Linear PCM to your reciever. Crackinhedz is correct .I used to own this receiver now I own the 805.When PCM is selected it will light up MULTI CH on the top middle you have to look kinda close. Also I couldn't switch between listening modes with this receiver while using with my PS3 so the BDP-S1 is probably the same.
