I was reading that there's a lot of young people that can't write in cursive.
I started wondering other things that you learned growing up that they just don't teach anymore. So what would you list? Cursive would be first for me. If you can't write in cursive what's your signature going to look like? |

I'm 21 and can't write in cursive. We learned it and had to write in cursive the whole third grade, but then no teachers required it after that. I just lost it. My signature looks like a signature, not my name written in cursive.
Growing up I was taught that Pluto was a planet. |

I used to write nice cursive...I've recently realised I've lost it. |

I learned it in private school. When I went to public school they didn't expect students to know it or want kids turning in work written with it.

I learned cursive in third grade, and was expected to use it throughout elementary school. In junior high it became optional, in high school it was rarely used, and by college it was virtually banned. I can still read cursive but I can't use it except for my signature. My cursive was so sloppy it was illegible so I never used it after elementary school.

Writing in cusive is impractical for me, particularly when I was taking notes during high school. If need be, I think I can still write in cursive, but what's the point? I do just fine with the 'block letter' style of writing and have received compliments from the opposite sex for my hand printing.

Based on some of the posts/threads around here (not this thread...yet), it's obvious to me that they no longer teach spelling, grammar, punctuation, proper sentence structure or the difference between there/their/they're, to/too/two, your/you're, etc....

When I was in high school driver's ed was taught by the school and was graded and counted for credit. Now in my school district they outsource driver's ed and while it still can be taken at school during the school day it is no longer a graded or credit course.

I literally just got out of a meeting with my manager who told me that one of the managers that reports to her couldn't hire someone because in her thank you note she wrote, "Threw this interview.." instead of "Through this interview.."
