Default Blu-ray Player Sales to Top 32M Units in 2011

2011 The Year of Blu . From Home Media Magazine:

Quote:
With Blu-ray Disc and player sales coming off a record year, 2011 is expected to see more of the same, with unit sales topping 32 million units, an analyst said.

Ralph Schackart with William Blair & Co. in Chicago, Jan. 12 made the projection following discussions Jan. 7 at CES with executives from audio technology provider DTS Inc.

DTS supplies high-def audio functionality to major studio Blu-ray releases, including recent titles Resident Evil: Afterlife; The Other Guys; Salt; Twilight: Eclipse; Eat Pray Love; and The Bridge Over the River Kwai, among others. Indeed, DTS audio is included in 85% of the top 100 Blu-ray movies sold, according to the company.

Schackart said DTS management believes connected Blu-ray player sales could reach 35 million units this year, citing consumer demand for high-end audio solutions, continued drop of Blu-ray player prices and the need for multichannel DTS audio solutions for streaming content as drivers.

“We couldn’t be any happier with Blu-ray right now,” DTS CEO Jon Kirchner and CFO Mel Flanigan told Schackart, according to a research note.
