I've been lurking for a while and decided to register. I've been a member of AVSforum since 2004 but the HD-DUD's over there have spread like wildfire and it's become intolerable.
Here's a cut and paste of my latest post on the "HD Media Software Discussion" at AVS in response to those HD-DUD's ranting about their format suposedly winning the war... It's sure to give you a good laugh: From HD-DUD poster: "Disk sales ratios don't matter, HD DVD is winning this war one player sale at a time." Response from me: No it's not (winning the war). All those newbie J6P's that are buying those 200$ HD DVD players think that because they have a player that is "HD" that everything they put in it will be HD and they will continue to buy regular DVD's because the price for the same movie is 5-10$ cheaper. The a$$holes salesman are sure to tell those simpletons that "this machine will make all the DVD movies you have at home look like HD man!"... and that's all the J6P will remember. You think he will pay 28$ for a movie when he can pay 18$... or 35$ when he can pay 25$? Think again. Also, J6P is going to go to Blockbuster and what he is going to rent/buy for his shinny new 200$ HD DVD player? That's right: REGULAR DVD's. At least people who spend 500$ on a Blu-Ray player have an idea that they need to purchase Blu-Ray movies and they can afford the xtra 5-10$ per movie. It's still WAY too early for J6P to enter these High Def formats at this point... maybe by next XMAS (2008) but, by then, the ratio of movie sales will be 85:15 in favor of Blu-Ray and, contrary to the belief of some, it's not the hardware manufacturers that will decide this war but the movie studios and, with ratios at that level, they will end this war post haste. P.S. Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses. How many J6P own HDTV's and no Satellite or Cable HD set top box or, even worse, own the HD set top box but dont subscribe to HD services from their providers. You can take the HD out of HD DVD but you cant take the Joe out of Joe Six Pack. |
