Default What would you do in my shoes?

There is this game I really want. So I called a gamestop about 40miles away(my 2 stores didnt have it). To find out the guy actually works at on of my gamestops. He told me he was going to bring the game with him and I can pick it up tomorrow.

My question is. Tomorrow when I pick it up. Would you still buy it even if it turned out that it was open already? Meaning it was used for a display case with the game behind the counter in a sleeve. Would you be nice and say I am sorry but I thought it was brand new still in shrinkwrapped. Unless u give it to me at the used price I really dont want it now.

I forgot to ask him if it was still shrinkwrapped. I already called him back to make sure it was for the system I wanted. So I cant keep bugging him.

If it's not used, it was a 40 mile drive for him so I would just pay the new price. Assuming nobody's played the game yet, of course.

yes you can. its called customer service and if retailers forget about it, then they dont deserve your money. i would call and ask. its up to you wether or not you pay a new price for an opened item or if it even matters. but you have the right to know.

Well he was working at the one 40 miles away because he was filling in for a manager.

Sure you can. He's an employee, not a drill instructor. Whenever I call, I make it a habit of asking if a particular title in stock is both new and shrinkwrapped; if the latter criteria isn't met, I keep looking elsewhere. I don't trust any of the display copies on Gamestop's shelves as "brand new, only the shrinkwrap is removed", nor do I take the word of any employee working there.

Yeah I called. He said it was shrinkwrapped. I really hated to keep calling him because usually I can just go up to gamestop in about 5 mins and check for myself. But having to wait till tomorrow not knowing the condition of the game was driving me crazy.

I didnt even think to ask the other 2 times I called. First, was to see if they had it. Ok sounds good. Called back to make sure he didnt choose the wrong version. Then I thought crap, I forgot to asked if it was shrinkwrapped.

Not Bashing Gamestop but I always worry about a game thats been out for along time and Gamestop is the only place to get it. Because if they have 1 copy left they want to give you a display case/game and call it new.

I don't think it technically matters. As long as you're able to purchase the game you want, then that's all that matters. Besides the game is still technically new just opened for security reasons so that it won't be like oh yeah our computer says we have the game in stock, oh wait it looks a customer stoled it.

I have never understood the gripe about the opened display box games. They give the new game warranty on it and you are free to return it as new if you do not remove the sticker. The fact is it is not a used game ( unless of course the frowned upon practice of employees playing it has happened but I do believe GS cracked down on that) it is a new game and it has the same warranties as a new game. I would say do it, I have bought a many games that were displays and had no problem, if you want the game you want the game, and if it is the only copy what's the big frakkin deal.

Umm, the issue is usually when a game has been opened by a store it is either a return that there trying to sell of as new, or a copy that the employees have borrowed that they then sell as bieng new.

I don't get this whole people saying employees can borrow new copies of games. That rule or even privledge has never existed in the 1st place. If a new copy of a game is returned, it has to be shrinkwrapped, unless it's a last copy of a game that the employee who sold that game to the customer sealed the case with a sticker and if that sticker is taken off then it just becomes a trade-in and not a full money back to the customer.

Plus there's the matter that any game Gamestop sells has at least 1 new copy opened to display on the floor just to let customers know we have that game in stock and so when you consider that does that mean every single game has been played by the employees? No.

So just because it's been opened doesn't mean someone has played it, and besides the popular games get so many copies in with all of the shipments they get in for those kinds of games, that the chances that even if Gamestop has that so called privledge that people seem to claim that employees have played it, the chances are slim to none that the opened copy you got has been played. I know that my games I like to play are very niche and don't get so many copies in because of having employees and as well as most of their customers not knowing of the existence of the kinds of games I play so it's not like some employee is going to play it since most employees at Gamestop don't even know that they even carry the kinds of games I like or even in the rare cases that it becomes a Gamestop exclusive.

Was the game not available at a better ratailer I absolutely refuse to shop at Gamestop because of this practice, in fact I don't know how selling something as new that has been opened can be legal I don't care if it hasn't been in a machine

It is possible, but having known several employees who did do this (and saying it doesn't happen would simply be wrong) I don't like my games bieng opened if i'm paying full price. I'm not reffering to gamestop here, rather the major retailers of games in Australia where this certainly does happen alot (eb games, game and jb hi fi).

Well sure some have gotten away with it, but doesn't mean every Gamestop or videogame store will have an employee borrow a game. Besides even if it was ok if all Gamestop stores can borrow games, they could always just borrow the used copy anyways.

But we live in a world where you can't trust anyone especially when it comes to business, so security measures are taken so that theft doesn't occur or at least is minimized. I've even seen Gamestop stores have the employees empty out their pockets and bags they're carrying with them so that the employee doesn't steal a game. They're very strict these days, and maybe even a little too strick for my tastes. I even remember the days where it was like make 1 mistake on the job and you're fired.

Oh and EB Games is part of the Gamestop corporation or at least is here in North America.

If I was buying this used or pre-owned or something, I wouldn't worry about it, and just be glad I got a deal of some kind. Might want to inspect the disc, but if this is a PS3 game in a BD disc, it should be good.

Buying new, I would assume it's shrinkwrapped. If not, I might be suspicious.

If it was really really bothering me, I would call them again, regardless of whether or not I'm being a bother.

I didn't know that. Eb Games is by far the worst offender though where I live.

I did get my game today. The reason why I got it at Gamestop was only because it was $19.99. Walmart, Best buy,Kmart had it for $39.99. I did ask walmart if they could price match even if a item wasnt in stock. They said they only will price match a item in the ad. Kmart doesnt price match. Best buy would have to have the item in stock also.

I haven't seen a BB call to check stock in many many years. What game was it BTW?
