Default HELP Satellite Placement

I moved into a new house a few months back and have been struggling with satellite placement, and I'm tired of not having my surrounds that I paid good money for! Hoping some of you experts can help. In the attached photos I marked the locations I'm thinking about. The left surround is easy enough but the pillar on the right is causing me headaches. Should I mount it on the pillar, on the ceiling, kind of behind the pillar on the other side of the stairs, or somewhere else? Part of the problem I'm having is I am going to run the speaker wire inside the wall and the pillar is solid so I will have the wall plate with the binding post on the wall above the stairs (just above the living room ceiling) not on the pillar itself. The room itself is adjacent to the kitchen. It is ~15.5 ft wide, ~9 ft from the front wall to the couch and ~16 ft total front to back. I can take more photos or describe what I'm trying to do if it helps.

Help me make up my mind so I can put them up already!

Ohh and TIA!!

You "could" put it on the pillar & just use Raceways if you're worried about the speaker wire being exposed (you can get them at Home Depot, very inexpensive).

Since the couch is right up against the pillar, should I be concerned about audio quality? That is part of the reason why I was thinking about mounting it on the wall on the other side of the stairs.

You can always mount the Right surround speaker on the rear wall, at the left of that door.
And the Left surround one, or around where you already have a mark for it or even at the left of that other door (you'll have to make sure you don't open that door all the way by installing some kind of door blocker).

Also, don't install them that high; their tweeters at five feet from the floor would be max (the recording & mixing sound engineers don't have their surrounds that high).
And use adjustable brackets so you can aim them where their sound dispersion sound best from your listening position on your couch.

* The stairs' post and the stairs' wall are not ideal positions in my opinion; the post will reflect sound if you use that wall, and on the post the speaker would be quite close to your listening position and more prominent.
And if they are installed too high, you'll missed some of the intended discrete sound effects.

That's what I'd do if it was my room.

Thanks for the advice. So you are saying you would mount both on the back wall? I'm not opposed to that but when I asked the forum a few months back (w/o pics) everyone suggested the sides would be better. Mounting them on the back wall would be easiest but I want to go with what will sound best.

Ohh and that door opens into the bathroom so no need to worry about it hitting the sparkers.

I tought my post was very clear.

Yup, the back wall is just fine in your situation.
Furthermore, there are no rules that say that you cannot have one on the back wall and the other one on the side wall; just experiment (by having them on improvised high stands, so it's easy to move them around) and choose the final positions that sound best to you. ...Even try that post and see what what comes up (don't drill holes, improvise a speaker stand like I said, or attached it with a bungee cord, just to experiment the sound).
We all have to adapt to our own room's design right?
Not everyone has the opportunity and resources to have a dedicated Home Theater room.

* And you provided clear pictures of your own room, and I gave you my opinion based on those pictures.

You have a great day,
Bob
