yup, I saw it and it's an amateurish boring film that you will only want to see once. There is only one good scene in the movie and it's of an airplane making a crash landing. But that's not enough reason to blind buy this film.

I have this film on DVD, the picture quality of the DVD is great, so hopefully the bluray will be even better. I think this has already been released as a German Bluray (http://www.cinefacts.de/blu-ray-film...-kompanie.html) but obviously as the language is in Russian the German version only has german subtitles, so if you dont understand Russian or German there is nothing hi-def until this is released.

I would say it's a good film in terms of plot - the 7.3/10 on imdb is a fair score. Generally speaking it's an interesting story about conscripts from all over the USSR going to a forgotten/un-reported war, it does get a little lost in the middle with sub-plots such as the girl on camp and people sleeping on guard duty. Some of the cinematography is very good, especially when the Hinds (helicopters) are flying around the mountains, I think this was filmed in Uzbekistan so it's pretty unique to see this scenary.

If you like war films and the conversion to bluray is good and you can get it for say under $13 then it's worth it. There are few films about this conflict (except the Beast) and even fewer from the Soviet point of view.

Hopefully it will be region-free, and if it is I'll probably import it from the US or Canada.

Only 2.0 audio for the original audio track? That's probably going to make me pass on this one.

It was a decent film but I was kinda bored around the middle of the film.. I have it on DVD and will not upgrade - from what I remember it is a pretty crappy DVD release

If you want a good move about the Soviet Afghan conflict look no further than the classic known as Rambo III!

Anyone interested in contemporary Russian war films should take a look at Aleksandr Sokurov's Alexandra.

yeah, but this is not the type of film to buy or revisit. Anyone buying this is just wasting their money.

I can't comment on the film , as I haven't seen it , but for those who might buy it , the Canadian release (Warner-not Well Go USA) has a lossless DTS soundtrack in both Russian and English.
